Let There Be LightMaestro

Something this grandiose could only be introduced with such grandiosity.

www.lightmaestro.com

I'm not sure why my first post about this just disappeared, but Rovastar said to just repost it.

Spread the word. Just not to AVS users.

Nice work dude, though there's pretty little to see and it sounds like a big bloat.

Do you use MD2.0? - the video looked all like oldschool presets. did you touch the milkdrop code at all?

If so, can you imagine implementing a version history to the mashup-functionality? That's one feature where authors and mashers would benefit the most from, i guess. Maybe adding a comment line to the preset init code (from which presets the original parts were taken) with every mash-up step. you know what i mean?

Reload lightmaestro.com for a screenshot of the interface, showing the Preset Browser panel on the left. That entire half of the screen is it's own 'window', and i switch that out for the Preset Editor or Message Editor or Keyboard Config.

Flexi:
It's not nearly as bloated as one would guess from the list of features. On my measly 2ghz it could start up in 20 seconds or less, and task manager says it takes a pretty minimal amount of memory. It loads the log window first, which then shows messages as each window loads into memory. It could be changed so the Preset and Message Editors don't load until you try to use them, for those who want or need a rapid startup process.

And i'm not exaggerating with its ability to let MilkDrop run without skipping. Even with it downloading presets and generating sprite messages and recording the whole thing with Fraps.

And yes, the video is pretty old. Like i said on the site, it's been a while since i've even been able to work on it. In order for this to get off the ground i need funding, cause i'd probably need a dedicated server or two and fat pipe. To the Internet.

If i thought i could fund it by donations or user registrations i would go that route, but i'd be an idiot to not see how far this will go. If AOL doesn't recognize the value of this, my reluctance with trusting them was well founded. In any case, i hate money and don't really even want to discuss it. All i really want from this is to never worry about it again. My life's as much a mess as the blessed economy thanks to being so overprotective of my brain-child.

If it gives you all motivation to ensure that this gets funded, one of my demands will be that every original Preset will be paid for. Those written without the help of my graphical Preset Editor, anyway. So get coding, team.

And no, I didn't actually have to touch the MilkDrop code at all, and really didn't even have to look at it. Sending windows messages to MilkDrop and WinAmp was all i needed.

As for mashups, it wouldn't take much to add a "Version" column to the Presets table. As far as remixes, there's a PresetArtists table that associates one or more Artists to a Preset. But for versions, would there be any problem with just storing multiple Presets with the same name and a version number tacked on to the end?

I must say i like Milkdrop for its minimalism.
I wish you good luck with your marketing strategy.
