Winamp 5.666 won't play

I was using the Winamp you suggested. However, it shows the song but there is no sound.
Thanks, Ptfitzy

A lot of things could be causing this. To keep from having to ask a lot of questions, please use the Winamp Info Tool (http://koopa.meggamusic.co.uk/infotool/) to make an extended report of your configuration. The tool will put the report in a zip file. Attach the zip file to a post.

The tool is a stand-alone app that does not have to be installed and can be run from any folder on your computer. Some anti-virus apps generate an alert when you try to download and/or run it. That is a false positive response due to how the tool works, the tool is safe to use. You may need to temporarily turn off the anti-virus app, if you can't add the tool's file name to it's exception list and there is no other way to get it to allow the download or execution.

Sometimes Winamp itself is not the cause of volume issues. If a check of the configuration report shows nothing amiss, then other possible reasons can be suggested and examined. For example, the Windows Volume Mixer could be set up wrong for Winamp (Winamp must be running for it to show up in the volume mixer).

For many other kinds of issues, I agree that the fastest way to resolve them is often a 'clean' reinstall. However, it is also good to know if it is something the user is doing that causes the problem (in order to avoid it happening again).
