okay i'll also work on darkening the gate a bit more, i've been working off shots taken of the actual gate for details, so ya i can darken it.

And if i was better at 3d Max (got it lying here just never gotten around to learning it) I'd set up a 3d animation of how they made the effect (underwater cam pointing up and a jet engine above it the water by a foot then one clear blast)

and yes the chevron lock light color is accurate but i will be doing a 2nd png of it that show's it lit up (as when the gates locked) which will look better i hope.

Quad Helix: Well that's not up to me, I suggested using the GDO for the shade mode, but it's up to Vice, this is his project. I just got sucked into it

Rontz: All my colors I've pulled directly off Prop images, but Color theme's should make you happy if you want it more red

Thanks Vice, I've attached the latest Graphic build of the gate. Unless i'm overlooking something I think it's done (I've also added a state for the chevrons to "lock"), it took some adjustments but I did manage to get 9 Chevrons on there. (took all morning though )


Actually I don't have one .. yet.. (was only grabbing picks of the gate, now I go grab pics of the DHD, once the dhd is done then i'll go on a "Garage Door Opener" hunt

OH.. question though.. Will the DHD be laid over the gate or is it intented to work like a remote (you know place the dhd somewhere and both are independent, but linked?)

looks fantastic!

if you hover your mouse over the gate at www.sg1archive.com, you'll see the chevron "lock". Could you maybe make such states for your gate, for hover/down/active images for buttons?

Would be sweet.

well, depends on if the coder wants to use them for anything, but yes I can add a 2nd set for "locking" effect. Though far as i know all the main controls will be intigrated into the DHD. Though I still think that seek and volume should be used with the chevrons and inner ring.

I think all moving parts in the gate, should be used for something.
Otherwise the skin will feel like nothing more than eyecandy, nothing actually useful or fun.

Ok. How could we incorporate the moving parts? (moving gate symbols and "locking" chevrons that light up) If we also have a DHD, the controls would be there? Volume and seek? visualizations in the center? I agree with Plague it should be functional and fun! Especially fun! Something a stargate fan (most importantly one who likes the series) would appreciate. How could we bring more about stagrate SG-1 into the function if the skin???

As I said.. if we put the seeker and Volume bar operate via the chevrons and inner ring.

Basically to alter the volume have them click the chevrons which then animate and up the volume by a % and drag the inner ring around to use the seeker (while it rotates on it's own as the song plays)

Fot volume and seek you could use the inner and entire (not only the chevrons)outer ring.
And it would aslo be nice if the DHD fitted into the event horizon so that you can position it there if you don't want/like/use vis.
Or you could use the event horizon for other windows like video or playlist or even the Media library.

Maybe I'll figure our something better while watching the series again. I'm going over all of the episodes including the movie from season 1 through 6. If I come up with something new I'll let you know.

Just thought of something for the DHD controls.
Use the glyphs from the series offcourse. So that the Earth's point of origin glyph(POOG) would do the stop. The Abydos' POOG for previous(refurring to the movie before the series). The Chulak POOG for next. The big red bowl for play/pause obviously. And wel the second earth's gate POOG or Tok'ra Planet POOG as open button

Fowx, is the water moving effect something that will need to be done as a visualization? Can it be round? I have never seen a round visualization, that I can think of.

Vice: I honestly don't know, granted if you put it as the lowest layer it's possible.. TBH.. i have NO CLUE on the coding, i'm still a novice at that,

actually the DHD won't fit and be accurate, but if it's put so it docks at the base so it looks like it's standing infront of the gate..

and if you want the water shut off, i can always design the iris

yes it's possible to make a round vis, but you'll have to make it a beatdetector only. All custom-made vis's with png's as their elements have to be beatdetectors, because there's no way to get the entire vis-spectrum in maki.

about the DHD, it would be uber cool if it could be placed in the middle, but if it's not possible, then it's not possible..

I am interested in seeing an iris especially if it is animated like the show. yeah the DHD has many details to be of accurate size.

Still thinking...

Would be interesting if the actual traveling through the gate effects could be shown. Even though the effects are only experienced upon entering the gate.

You know, it would be great if say Quad Helix could do the GDO, cuz frankly, at this sci-fi-ish stuff i'm good at, But doing the GDO which is a Real world object (it actually started life as a tv remote apperently that the effects guys dressed up), I think the likes of Quad if he is willing would render it much better then me.

Doing realisitic RW objects i blow at and he's pretty good. I can supply a picture of it if he'd like.

Well as i continued to watch the epsiodes I realized that if we use the gkyphs as above. The DHD woudn't be accurate. The DHD doesn't show all POOG. Only the one for that particular planet.

It could also be the adress for earth or another planet. But we'd have to figure auto 7 functions. Adding the control buttons would do the trick next,previous,stop,open,close,minimize,shade. And play/pause will be the red orb again.

I liked the first idea best but if you want it to be accurate the second is better.

this is an effect i used on the custom vis as part of my ufo skin (still wip, see here for the effect & choose warp effect for the main mode vis -> http://slob.org.uk/wa5/UFO_beta3.wal)
it could be used to warp the water layer(s?), obviously may need a bit of tweaking to get desired results but works from the vu values

as for the ring layers, rotational layers lend themselves to this.
you could rotate the icon layer for each press of the chevron buttons by varying the degree amounts to correspond with the chevron markers to give it that SG1 looks & feel

Slob's thread about using sounds when hovering a button gave me an idea.
Why not play a sound when you push one of the control buttons. Why not use the sound used in the series when they press any glyph on the DHD.
it could try to extract only that sound out of one of the episodes. It can't be that hard.
If it is doable to add a sound. I will do my best to get the clearest sound out of one of the episodes or the movie.

IceGod: Now I know we can't add sounds In WA3 and far as I know still can't do it in WA5 (damnit, where's that SDK already). It all comes down to what WA5's SDK says. For all we know they've added the ability (finaly) but we won't know untill they release the bloody sdk for sure on if we can and if so what's the code structures for it.

in Wa3, it's possible to add sounds, but it's NOT posible in Wa5, the reason for this is that Wa3 had the ability to use multiple cores, which is not possible in Wa5.

well, here's my suggestions Quad.

1. the GDO's basic color is sorta a bronzish (noticed this on today's ep which had it prominatly displayed in a scene) on it's main body with either clear or a gold clear back face buttons labeled 1-9 (i say label em like this first, and then pick a logical order for all the major buttons and maybe have then coded as roll overs)

Also now this is just a suggestion, but put somesort of bg behind the left cover there cuz we could use that as a draw to put things like the EQ or PL or thinger or whatever into so won't have to worry bout window's popin up

That's just my thoughts on it.
