5.56 context menus (seems diff from other reports)

running xp sp3. 5.56 (x86) 1 July 09

Proven this twice due to XP reinstalls. First timeuse of context menu options from within Winamp fails.

Install Winamp 5.56. aok

Start winamp 5.56 aok

right click main window -> Play -> File.

browse to location.

Right-click file name-> Play in Winamp Or Enqueue in Winamp.

Nothing happens but for a lagging of the Winamp play window, the appearance of a std. windows title border around the play window and the stalling of the (currently playing) scrolling title). Play remains of currently playing title. after 12 to 15 secs all symptoms disappear -- but the request of play or enqueue doesn't complete.

The Workaround (required only once): Start Windows Explorer.
Browse to location.
Right-click file name Play in Winamp Or Enqueue in Winamp.
AOK. behavior as expected.

Return to Winamp
Browse to location.
Right-click file name Play in Winamp Or Enqueue in Winamp.
aok. behavior as expected. Going forward all aok.

Winamp 5.56
Clean install, no 3rd-party skins or plugins
Language Pack: English
Skin: Bug occurs with all of Bento, Winamp Modern and Classic skins

OS: Windows XP SP3
Locale: English US
CPU: Intel Pentium M 1300MHz
Memory: 2GB RAM
Graphics: Intel Extreme Graphics 855M
Sound: Sigma Tel C-Major Audio

Problem:
When I'm using the icon view for album art the left and right arrow keys don't work when I try to navigate through the list of albums with them. Only the up and down arrow keys work. And the left-right arrow keys work fine for seeking. A clean install of 5.56 didn't work, but when I reinstalled 5.552 all the arrow keys worked fine.

Method of Reproduction:
1. Set album window to display album art
2. Set the album art window to small icon (same with medium and large icon)
3. Click on one of the albums so it's highlighted
4. Try to navigate grid of album art using arrow keys

winamp 5.56
language: german
no 3rd party plugins or skins
the shoutcast tv just doesn't work!
i can connect to a stream-server but it doesn't load
it stays at 0%
last week i used the winamp 5.52 (? or any 5.x-version) and there have never been a problem since i installed 5.56 (by the way: the installer-menu says it's 5.55...)
is there a way to download an older version?

Problem fixed:
i used the bentoskin but it only works with winamp- or winamp-classic skin (whyever...)

On end of queue -> Hibernate/Standby

Winamp 5.56
Language: English
No Third Party Plugins/Skins.

When using On end of queue -> Hibernate it doesn't hibernate the computer, but it puts it into stand by, and when you select On end of queue -> Standby, it goes to hibernation. These two options are swapped.

Radio channel metadata on vorbis stream

-Winamp 5.56 (5.5.6.2512) - clean install
-AMD 3200+ ASUS A8V-XE, 2 GB RAM
-Windows XP SP3 US
-ASUS Radeo X1600, 8.561
-Auzentech Prelude, 6.0.1.1281
-DirectX 9.0c

This is a rare bug because I listen to what may be the only radio channel in the world that broadcasts artist/title metadata and Vorbis streams.

Go to http://www.absoluteradio.co.uk/liste..._computer.html

and you will see that Title, Artist, and Homepage metadata does not show up on the Vorbis streams but does on the mp3 streams.

It occurred to me that last post is really a plugin bug.

[Edit --> DJ Egg]
Just an unimplemented feature.... no streaming metadata support for in_vorbis.

-Conexant High Definition Audio, Driver: 4.91.7.51

Ok, I dunno if this problem has been reported to you guys or not, as I haven't been able to find anything about this on the forums, so here goes... After I use Gracenote to get the information for my CDs, I (being the anal self I am) correct spelling/grammatical errors using *right click-Edit CD Info...-MusicID tab-click Edit button. Then I submit the info to the server and use the info as my tags before I rip them to my hard disk. On the last couple albums I've ripped to my hard drive, Winamp has skipped a track or two at random. There was even one instance where it ripped a track twice, which was bizarre, to say the least. I have no clue as to why this is; previous versions never did that to me before. And yes, it does put the files where I told it to.
I've also been having some various library problems too: after ripping certain CDs, half of the tracks are propperly tagged, while the rest are tagged wrong (missing an artist/album/year, or getting them all mixed up) or missing tags completely, even in the Windows interface; after manually updating the tags, certain tracks won't go in the same order that they would have in previous versions (artist/album(year)/track number). Though I can correct the ordering problem sometimes by adding the folder that the tracks themselves are stored in over again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
-Drew

Winamp 5.56 (build 2512)
Clean install, no 3rd-party skins or plugins
Language Pack: None (default English US)
Skin: Winamp Modern (only skin tested)

OS: Windows XP x64
Locale: English US
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+
Memory: 4GB RAM
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce 9800GTX
Sound: Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS Platinum
DirectX 9

Problem:
Winamp forces itself to foreground when fullscreen applications are launched, but input is still directed to the fullscreen application. This only happens if Winamp is not minimized.

Method of Reproduction:
1. Open Winamp and leave it displayed on the screen.
2. Open a fullscreen application such as World of Warcraft in fullscreen windowed mode or Microsoft Remote Desktop in fullscreen view.

WinXP Shutdown Issue

"Cygon" reported this here for Win7, I'm experiencing the same on 2 very different WinXP machines (Dell Laptop & Maxdata Desktop):

Can never shutdown windows while Winamp is running, since Winamp becomes non-responsive.
Have to use the taskbar to close Winamp. Every time.

On earlier releases I did not see this bug.

Just setup my desktop with new WinXP SP3 and new Winamp 5.56 without custom plugins.

Here's the Nunz:

Using:
- 2.4 Ghz Core 2 Quad
- Windows 7 x64 (RTM release from the developer network)
- Soundblaster X-Fi Fatal1ty
- Winamp 5.56

I did a fresh install of Winamp 5.56 on the latest (and supposedly RTM release) of Windows 7 x64.

Under "General Preferences > Playback" I have 'Allow 24bit' checked/enabled.

When I attempt to play a 5-Channel .FLAC file, 96000hz, Winamp throws this error:

Error creating DirectSound buffer.
Error code: 80070057

All stereophonic files are playing fine, Winamp only chokes on surround-sound recordings. I attempted making all sorts of adjustments in Windows 7, in the Soundblaster options, and in Winamp, but no luck getting it to play. I investigated 3rd party plugins but no luck with those.

I fired up Foobar2000 v0.9.6.9 and it is correctly reading and outputting 5 and 6 channel recordings.

I've noticed this problem on various PCs and versions of Winamp (my friend actually originally pointed it out)

When you want to add a file to your playlist, and you select the default filetype "All supported types"

then any .WAV files do NOT show up.

The only way to show these is to choose either "All Files" or "Sound Files"

This makes no sense as these files are obviously supported as winamp can play them

[Edit --> DJ Egg]
Known issue caused by a Windows limitation
(260 characters for extension list in Open File Dialog).
See here for workaround.

Winamp 5.56 (build 2512)
Clean install, no 3rd-party skins or plugins
Language Pack: None (default English US)
Skin: Bug occurs with all of Bento, Winamp Modern and Classic skins

Locale: English US
CPU: Intel Core2 Quad Extreme QX6700
Memory: 8GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260
Sound: Creative SB X-Fi

Problem:
When playing video, Winamp will use 1 full core of CPU usage when Aero is enabled. This results in choppy and unwatchable video. Yes, hardware accelerated video is enabled.

Method of Reproduction:
1. Install Winamp
2. Play Video
3. Uninstall Winamp because of being fed up with an ancient bug that hasn't been fixed

Crash on XP with IE8 and JScript.dll 5.7

Winamp 5.5.6.2512
Clean install, no 3rd party plugins.
Language Pack: None (using default)
Skin: Bug occurs with Bento and Winamp Modern skins.

OS: Windows XP sp3 English
CPU: Intel Core2 Duo E8400 3 GHz
Memory: 6 GB (3.25 GB, Physical Address Extension reported by Windows)
Graphics: Nvidia Geforce 8400 GS, 512 MB, Bios 62.98.12.00.00
Sound: Realtek HD Audio output 5.10.0000.5567 (WHQL) on MSI MS-7360 motherboard.
DirectX: 4.09.0000.0904

I have a fully updated Windows XP, with IE8 installed. I recently got problems in my development environment because of the new JScript.dll shipping with IE8 (5.8). So I replaced it with the old 5.7 version. That one got updated by Windows Update the next day, to 5.7.6002.22145 (which, by the way, is also the version on our Windows 2003 server with IE7).

Winamp starts up, and after a few seconds Windows says it has crashed, and I have to push the button to close it. (I can however let it continue to play, if I was really to start playing.)

I have reinstalled many times, and tried the forum's instructions for uninstalling all prefs etc. That didn't help.

When I put back JScript.dll 5.8, Winamp behaved normally. And when I switched to 5.7 again, it started crashing. I guess it has something to do with initialising IE8 embedded in Winamp.

(I experienced something similar with Terminals, www.codeplex.com/terminals, which also initialises a browser after startup. That crashes, too, but only once every day, because it only uses the browser the first time it is started every day. That is a .Net program, though.)

Winamp 5.56
OS Win 7 x64

I have a playlist made up of FLAC songs. Winamp ignores the "out_ds -> Fading-> on first start & on start" settings and just starts playing at full volume instead of fading up over time (I have it set to 60000ms, with adjusted buffer length on my alarm clock, so it's very noticeable.) It works fine with MP3's.

[Edit --> DJ Egg]
Hmm, weird! I can actually reproduce this. Thanks

Winamp 5.56 (build 2512)
Language Pack: English
Skin: Winamp Modern

OS: Windows XP x32
Locale: English
DirectX 9

Problem:
Isn't saving configuration and position to winamp.ini for portable installation.

Method of Reproduction:
To Set local folder in Winamp folder for portable use in path.ini .
Run. Tune. Exit. Not saved settings and positions.

Imho would be great if Winamp could save settings and positions in winamp.ini - every time when pushed "close" button in configuration window.

Or would be a menu string and a button in configuration window - "save".(near "close" button) to save configuration and position too.

Or optional 2 futures to save configuration and position for time intervals and when exiting from Winamp.

Thank you in advance for support.

Equlizer

Hey guy's, it's me, Alex.

I've found a bug in Winamp's Equlizer, but first some words about my computer: I have 2 soundcard's, the first is a integrated Card from C-Media and the second one is from Sound Blaster 5.1 VX. If you need more Information, look here: sysprofile.de/id86124 (sorry, it's in german, but I think you will understand this )

My Problem: If I turn the Equlizer on, load a profile like "Dance", the EQ do all, what I want So far so good. But if I spin the actual track forward and backward something bad will happen:
1.) The music get only out of my left speaker
2.) I hear from time to time "brrrt brrrt"
3.) I hear my music in "Half-Speed"

If I try another track, I shouldn't spin it

I tested this with my both soundcards...
Have you an idea?

Greetings,
Alex

Windows 7 taskbar

Windows 7 taskbar bug

Winamp 5.57 (build 2765)
Clean install, no 3rd-party skins or plugins
Language Pack: None (default English US)
Skin: big bento

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate N
Locale: English US
CPU: ?
Memory: 2GB RAM
Graphics: NVidia
Sound: ?

Problem:
In windows 7 you have the icon in the taskbar. This icon has a white box around when the program is started and when you hover over the icon you see a small representation of the program window. With winamp this only works when the window is open. When you minimise the winamp program the white box disappears and the preview window is not displayed.

Method of Reproduction:
1. start winamp in windows 7
2. mouseover the winamp icon in the taskbar
3. minimize the winamp window
4. mouseover the winamp icon in the taskbar

[Edit --> DJ Egg]
Thanks. Though this particular issue is already covered in the Known Issues section of the 5.57 Released thread.
I'll add a link to it in the first post of this thread...

Winamp 5.57 (build 2792)
Upgrade on 5.56, which was installed on new OS; no 3rd-party skins or plugins
Language Pack: PL
Skin: Bug occurs with Bento; other skins not checked

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
Locale: Polish PL
CPU: Athlon X2 6000+ 3.1Ghz
Memory: 3GB RAM
Graphics: GeForce 9800GT
Sound: Creative SB X-Fi
DirectX 10

Problem:
1. When I playing Audio CD, the Track Notifier after every track shows "End of Playback" instead of name of new playing track. Sometimes even if I press "next" or "prev" button, track notifier shows anything.
2. When Audio CD is a mix compilation (that is without breaks between tracks, but with normal track numbers), the Track Notifier works, but sometimes dissaper, until I press "pause" or "stop" and play again. Besides, second problem occurs in flac or mp3 files too.
Track Notifier in 5.56, and older, works great.

I using for notifer this settings:
Show: Always
Place: Right-down corner
Show method: horizontal slide
Fade method: vertical slide

Method of Reproduction:
1. Play AudioCD with single files or/and mix compilations or/and flac/mp3 files and watch for Track Notifier behawior, like I wrote in "problem" section.

I rolled back to clean install of 5.56 and all works fine on the same settings, so this problem is in 5.57.

Edit: Ah, forgot to say, that configuration program is buggy to - after applied settings I got hang and all file type assocations are restarted to default. Besides when I clicked "Start Winamp", Winamp not started. I did it manually.

-Intel E8400 Core 2 Duo @ 3.6GHz
-4 GB DDR2 PC2-6400 G.Skill RAM
-Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit (final) US
-EVGA GeForce 260 GTX 896MB RAM / Driver 195.81 beta
-Creative X-Fi Titanium / Driver 6.0.1.1347
-DirectX 11

Problem:
Spectrum Analyzer "reactivity" is slower than previous versions of Winamp. Reproducible with all types of skins (classic, modern, Bento) beginning with Winamp 5.57 (betas included). This is the case even with the "Timers Resolution" setting auto-detected at 15ms (which is the fastest I've ever seen the auto-detect function set this to even on the fastest of computer systems).

System Specs:

Intel Wolfdale Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.6GHz 1600MHz FSB
Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R rev 1.1
G.Skill 4GB DDR2 RAM: F2-6400CL4D-4GBPI-B
Creative X-Fi Titanium
eVGA GeForce 260 GTX
Klipsch 4.1 THX speakers
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit

WinXP, Firefox 3.5.6, Winamp 5.57

Problem: Winamp installer closed my browser (with several tabs open) without first asking permission. Restarting Firefox, all I got was a Winamp page on one tab instead of my previous session. I then noticed that Winamp had CHANGED my previously set homepage.

PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS TO US!!

Well, I agree that the browser stuff etc isn't very useful, but that you don't read the text in the installer is your fault.

Simply uncheck 'Winamp Application Detect', 'Winamp Toolbar' and 'Set Winamp.com as my default search' etc.

Hi

The update of winamp 5.57 didn't fix for me the crash during the configuration saving. It's always crashing and closing during this operation.

There was nothing saying that it would change my homepage and close the browser without asking. I always uncheck Winamp as my default search.

What is Winamp Application Detect supposed to be? I think I saw something about plugin somewhere but after installing, I didn't see Winamp anywhere in Firefox plugins

From the Winamp 5.571 Released threaad...

The Winamp Application Detect browser plugins for IE & Firefox basically allow winamp.com and other participating sites (shoutcast.com, spinner.com, etc) to detect Winamp presence & version and deliver appropriate content
(eg. to determine whether the installed version supports the new winamp:// protocol).
The plugins do not collect/send any other data whatsoever. Infact, you won't even notice that they're there....
Support for other browsers (Chrome, Opera, Safari, Webkit) is planned for a later release.

Please do not PM me for tech support. Any request for tech support through PM will be ignored.

Winamp 5.571 Lite

WindowsXP SP3

Same error as with 5.57: "MSVCR90.dll was not found" when the file is installed, as with the previous version, in the Microsoft directory within the Winamp directory.

Uninstalling and reinstalling does not help.

Please could we see your List Of Plugins

Winamp 5.571
Clean Install, no 3rd-party skins or plugins
Language Pack: German
Skin: Bugs occures on all skins

OS: Windows XP Prof. SP3

CPU: Intel Pentium 4
Memory: 1GB RAM

DirectX 9.0c

Hope I can mix up two bugs in one report :-)

1. Locking screen wihle playing nsv video (eg. left windows key and L). When unlock, video window is blank.
There is no way to get the video back, only closing winamp and restart it.
This was reported from many listeners of our station and was reproduceable by all members of our team.

2. Subtitles display in NSV streams:
Playing a nsv stream with subtitle, video 320x240.
Right klick at video window, then choose double size.
Then right klick and choose normal size. The subtitle is twice as big now :-)

This two bugs were in 5.57 too.

Winamp 5.571 (build 2810)
Clean install, no 3rd-party skins or plugins
Language Pack: None (default English US)
Skin: Bug occurs with all of Bento, Winamp Modern and Classic skins

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
Locale: English US
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86Ghz
Memory: 2GB RAM
Graphics: Intel GMA3000
Sound: Creative SB Audigy & SoundMax Internal
DirectX 11
UAC Setting: Default

Problem:
After a clean install and a UAC prompt within the Preference settings dialog all the desktop icons and Explorer icons refresh. Then on each start-up of Winamp the icons refresh again. This does not happen until and after a UAC prompt is accepted for the first time in the preference screen.

Method of Reproduction:
1. Install a clean Winamp installation (5.571)
2. Go into the preferences and if a UAC prompt appears accept it. (It came up on the Playlist or General options. Hit and miss unfortunately)
3.Watch the icons refresh, close Winamp then open Winamp and watch the icons refresh again and again.

This has never happened in previous versions of Winamp (5.561 and less).
