A little guidance

Part of a student project I'm working on involves a plug-in for winamp that has to output raw audio data to an external program in real time (using UDP, or similar other method) but also has to continue to play the music. My first thought was to make an output plug-in but now I've realised that's no good since there's no simple way to make it play the music as well as sending it out via UDP.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a sensible way to achieve this? Currently I'm thinking a DSP/effect plug-in but I'm not completely sure what form of data they have access to.

You could write a DSP plugin or an output plugin and use the latter with an output stacker. the former is far easier. the data you get is integer, not floating point.

My guess is that DSP would be a better cohise because you will not have to worry about how to actually play the samples you are receiving (and forwarding to an external application).
