disable preferences

Using WinAmp 5.1 on XP SP1. After making changes, I want to disable preferences. Can this be done in the .ini file? If so, which setting?

Also, I checked out the ini for dummies thread here:
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=182606

Is there a more updated one? The 5.1 ini looks alot different. Thanks.

What do you mean by disable preferences, do you mean prevent them from being changed again? Winamp.ini (general preferences) and Studio.xnf (Modern skin - options size, color, position etc) are the two main options/prefs files. If you make them read-only then the preferences can not be saved when Winamp closes.

"Winamp INI for Dummies" covers the just the [Winamp] section and does not include the default and third party plug-ins sections. Which is probably why it “looks alot different”.

BTW Big thanks to jmat for his hard work on the "INI File for Dummies" guide.

disabling preferences

Not sure if I was clear. I'm using WinAmp 5.1 on XP SP1. After making changes, I want to disable preferences so that others can't open WinAmp and modify the preferences. I want the preferences/options either grayed out or not accessible at all. Can this be done in the .ini file? If so, which setting? Thanks.

Nope, it can't. But as JM said, you can make winamp.ini and studio.xnf read only so any changes won't save.

yep set winamp.ini file to read-only and don't disturb the moderators with such questions, they have more serious work to do...

a plugin could be done to do this but i'm snowed under and really can't be bothered to do it at the moment, may do it when time permits but don't hold me to that...

i don't think that such option is necessary, just set winamp.ini and other plugins ini files to read only...
