MP3 HD Support Question

Is support for MP3 HD in the offing anytime soon? Or does it already exist?

Already have the plugin & standalone software for it

probably not, there'd be more chance of seeing ogg streams and that's unlikely as well.

I suppose you're right but it sure does sound crisper than MP3 SD does though (Especially when you're having to transcode stuff, which is unlike transcoding from MP3 SD to AAC/AAC+ )

i'm not sure how something like it would benefit streaming which never really goes for high bandwidth options which an mp3HD file would cause.

with the HD part being in an ID3v2 tag field, it just wouldn't match up with how SHOUTcast streaming works since you'd probably have to receive the whole HD component part before the SD data is received by the client in order for it to work (assuming the client was able to cope with such things as well) which isn't feasible with SHOUTcast. unless there's a way to stream the HD parts in chunks together with the SD and re-combine in the player (i.e. involves player updates which are lacking as well).

for non-streamed files i guess mp3HD makes sense in some ways (though a true lossless format would make more sense to use - but that's the fun of personal choice), but from a streaming view point, i just don't see mp3HD being viable.

I think MP3 HD is supposed to be an updated, more lossless version of standard MP3 similar to what PCM WAVE & FLAC already are IMO.....

Nonetheless, it's impressive & has potential - At least for local playback anyways

that's a buggy plug-in (cause issues with normal mp3 playback in Winamp) though http://www.winamp.com/plugin/mp3hd-i...-v1-5-0/221984 is the generally recommended download link for it.

plus based on Jeeper's posts, i'm guessing that plug-in is already being used if using Winamp.
