is there any chance that u Nullsoft guys could implement a thing in winamp such that it would keep the volume at a preset level at all times?
when listening to stand up comedy(for example), i find that the volume varies quite a lot from mp3 to mp3 and i have to keep alternately cranking it up and turning it down. if winamp could put out xx decibels constantly or xx decibels +/- a little bit during the mp3, that would be great. is there a plugin that would do this maybe?

This subject of normalisation comes up quite a lot... I would dig up some relevant threads, but I should be working. Instead, here's a plugin for Winamp 2 which should do what you want:

"What kind of a two-bit operation are they running out of this treehouse, Cooper?"
