The DaVinci Code

Disclaimer: Don't post any spoilers as I am in the middle of the book :-)

The reason I bring this up in the bitchlist is, I'm fucking tired of all the controversy it has stirred. I'm sick of people bitching about a fictional book containing inaccuracies/making allegations against Jesus' marital status. If you're dumb enough to believe a book labeled as fiction you shouldn't be reading it in the first place.

Priests are ridiculing the book, claiming that it contains evil messages that aren't of God. Claiming that a Christian has no place reading this book. Fuck that. A true Christian can read a fictional book and not have their views skewed.

The notions in the book that the catholic church was involved in many cover ups are only strengthened when churches/radicals detest the book.

Why don't people receive the ideas in the book with open arms? There are some incredible religious concepts within the words. I'm not saying believe everything you read in the book, I'm saying take the ideas into consideration.

Bah, I'm tired.

My supervisor at work is pissed off at that book/movie. I keep telling her to read Daughter of God ( I can't be arsed to go find it for the author ) but it deals with somewhat the same subject matter, only more heretical. It's basis is that there were more than one Messiah figure, many were female, but the church covered it up. Oh, and the spark of divinity that Jesus had was genetic mutation, but no-one hears about that book because somehow The Davinci code got all the controversy. Good move on the author's part. I know quite a few people who are going to see it just to see what all the hubub is about.

i haven't read The DaVinci Code so i can't comment on it much. i've heard it's nothing more than a cool story. i want to see the movie too. i don't care if it's supposed to have all this anti-christian whatever in it. if you haven't read the book, don't even go against it until you know what it says.

I thought it was interesting. Not particularly well written, but easy reading, and it's dealing with a subject that piqued my imagination a bit.

It's not that it's anti-christian.
It paints christianity in something alot more believable than Christ being some beyond human entity.
Kudos to Dan Brown for an excellent semi-fictitional work and if you like the code, read Deception Point, also penned by Dan Brown. Another great read about the discovery of life having been brought to Earth from space by natural means.

I read it and it's predecesor Angels & Demons. Believe me the first book is better. It's got a lot more story and a lot more interesting shit going on with antimatter and vatican churches. The DaVinci Code is just a weak storyline based on information put forth by Holy Blood, Holy Grail which got a lot of it's modern Order of Scion stuff from a fraud who was trying to prove himself to be an heir to the ancient French Throne.

In other words, you're reading an interesting theory (Jesus + Mary Magdelene) plus bullshit (Order of Scion, modern function) plus bullshit (DaVinci's involvement in Order of Scion, ancient function) plus lame-ass action. Overall, neat to interest you in the additional books of the bible (the ones left out), but not enough to convince you of a massive, ancient conspiracy revolved around Mary Magdelene.

**whew**

Go read a book without pictures

I saw it yesterday, was somewhat disappointed. I suppose I was expecting it to follow the book more closely, but it was still good at any rate.

I haven't seen it yet. Despite all the hype and a 70 million dollar opening day, everyone I talked to that's seen it gives it underwhelming reviews.

I think I'll wait for the DVD. Maybe this is something like "The Passion" which I thought was stupid beyond belief.... sort of a cross between Texas Chainsaw massacre and "Jesus Greatest Hits".

I didn't know that Jesus contained a fire truck full of red corn syrup .

I think Gibson should have found more interesting ways to snuff Jesus. Maybe romans with chainsaws?.

Without actually seeing the DC, I suspect I'll probably find another hollywood film that tried to be controversial, but failed even to be good cinema.

It is funny that my comments about the Passion evoked religious and anti-religious responses from other people. I never said anything about it's religious significance, if any. I just thought it was a stupid movie.

The DaVinci Code doesn't sound too much more interesting.

Completely agree about The Passion. The movie was just pathetic. Some nicely executed scenes (liked the raindrop part), but way too many glaring flaws and pathetic scenes.

Went to see it with a bunch of people from my class.... the professors were on strike that day and we had nothing better to do. I had a blast making fun of two girls that started crying watching it.

Read the book, will not wast emoney on the movie. The book is a good story, anyone who reads more into the plot than a plain story is like those X-files people who are still looking for Mulder's hidden religion and prophecies for the future.

People today are always looking for a story. They can't stand to see something better than themselves or anything that shows them their shortcomings. This is why they are always looking to bring down others - co-workers, friends, classmates who seem to be outperforming them, sportspeople, and everything else under the sky. Then they try to make things up to justify themselves.

Nice.

I am so important I feel the need to let it be known like a liberal discovering the internets for the first time. Uh hur hur hur. I also wash myself with a rag on a stick.

In the fiction section, DaVinci Code comes off as almost nonfictional. Almost. The Bible is down there with curious georgia and the teletubbies.

I liked them both. I read the book about 6 months ago, just saw the movie this weekend.

They changed/deleted a few things in the movie, but all in all, I felt it was a good portrayal of the book.
