MP4 Video Support

Many players support MP4 as audio and video.
Unfortunately, Winamp plays MP4 video files as audio only.

I hope Winamp would be able to play MP4s as audio and video in its new releases.

Doesn't play mp4 videos very well,
I've been in to music videos for many many years, which are most commonly in mp4 format.
Winamp has never done a very good job at playing them.
Not sure why, as I've used many video players that play mp4 absolutely perfect, and it's been like that on every single computer I've had, and I've had many.
Doesn't really bother me though, I just have always used something else for video playback.
Usually cuz I like to listen to music with Winamp, and still be able to watch porn.
Would be nice to be able to have my music videos play perfect in Winamp though, but oh well.

Most have a slight jitter, and lots have sync issues, where the audio doesn't match the video. Like when a singer is singing, the lips don't move with the music.
From what I've read many times people mention these problems. For many years.
It's obviously not my computers having the problem, since it's happened on every single one, and every other player plays mp4 absolutely perfect.

I'll check it out.
Actually I just went threw a bunch of my music vids and as far as I can tell, it only does that with the ones that are 1080p, but not all of them.
Most of my vids are 1080p though.

I just tried playing a few 1080p mp4's on the beta and the audio is definitely out of sync with the video on all of them. I tried a few 720p's plus a few other mp4's and they all seemed to play fine.

quickest way to get action would be to post some example files to 4shared or elsewhere and link here so the devs can try to replicate your issue.

The thing with MPEG-4 video is... we only officially support it in Winamp Pro (whether it's in an MP4/M4V, AVI, MKV, FLV or NSV container).

If the problem is occurring in the free version using in_dshow for MP4 video support,
then the issue will be being caused by whatever external MP4 splitter/filters you are using...
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=161361#video

If the problem is occurring in Pro using in_mp4 for MP4 video support, then yes, as MrSinatra says, a sample file would help
(I personally haven't seen any issues with out-of-sync audio).

The new working vsync setting in 5.7 Beta should fix the reported jittery playback issues for all HD video playback...

Most of other players support MP4 video in their free license.
I think it is a good idea to support MP4 without the need for Pro.

Most players you're probably talking about are non commercial Players, not developed by such a big company like AOL.

In reality, every company/organisation, who develops a player has to pay a license fee, but many of the opensource/freeware players ship a decoder without paying the license.

I guess the license holders tolerate it because the dev teams behind these players are small and not commercial.

I could never get normal Winamp to play h.264/MP4 video correctly, Dshow or not. Audio would play but either the video was blank or with a codec pack the video played normal with high pitched with no video.

In the end I just opened WMP or VLC and left Winamp to play music only.

This is odd... I am testing a couple of random MP4 / H.264 videos now and don't find any problem with audio-sync. I have K-Lite's codec pack on this Win7 PC. This is a pro install and I'll nip over to my non-pro beta test machine and check on there and update this post.

Ah: and there is a 1080p MP4 that also just played happy-ish. No sync problem. Yet this video is juddering on this high spec PC. Don't see the same judder with Media Player Classic. That feels like a difference between a software playback and a hardware one.

Still testing... loaded up a 1080p H.264 MKV and that was comical. Audio is running at over twice the speed. But that is fair enough as Winamp does not official support MKV.

right - now to check up on the "free" winamp on the other PC.
