ipod shuffle 4th gen and Winamp 5.6

I just bought a new iPod Shuffle 4th generation (the newest version) and tried loading some music using Winamp 5.6 and the stock ml_pmp plug-in. I was able to load music without difficulty, but on eject, the iPod would not play anything.

I found that connecting the iPod to iTunes and syncing "cured" the problem. That is, after this was done, the iPod was fine and would play everything in its library.

If I then went to Winamp and loaded some more music, the iPod was once again non-responsive when trying to play the music. It took another manual sync with iTunes to "cure" the problem.

Has anyone seen similar behavior. What's the problem with the new iPod shuffle 4th gen and Winamp?

Thanks for any help.

Rich

Hi

Please confirm that you are using Winamp 5.601 (5.6.0.3091 - 9th Dec 2010)
with pmp_ipod v0.81

The problem you are describing was a bug in 5.6 and earlier 5.601 (3rd-8th Dec 2010)

Thanks for your reply. This certainly seems like the same error, but I can confirm that I'm running Winamp v5.601 with pmp_ipod v0.81. Just to be careful, I did a complete uninstall of Winamp, made certain that there was no junk in the plug-ins folder and reinstalled.

I still see the same issue with my iPod shuffle 4th gen. It requires an iTunes manual sync before it can play any music following any activity using Winamp.

I can also confirm that my iPod nano 4th gen (2 generations old, not the current version) does not have any problems when music is added or deleted using Winamp 5.601/pmp_ipod v0.81. Everything works as expected.

Hmm, ok, so it sounds like the Shuffle 4g suffers with the same issue as what the Nano 4g suffered.

Apparently, there's one in the office, but no-one will be there for at least another week....

Would it be possible to get an ipod_sysinfo log (ipod.xml) from you?

Here's the output of the ipod_sysinfo log which is likely pretty similar to what demoxx just posted.

ipod shuffle 4th gen and Winamp 5.6

I also, just bought an Ipod shuffle 4th gen. But ITunes refuses to run on my XP machine. It keeps giving me a missing files error. I spent over 5 hours unloading and reloading everything Apple/Bonjour/Itunes/Quicktime but nothing helped. Itunes still will not work.

So, I loaded my music into WinAmp 5.601 with the ml_ipod add-on (I think). It appears to load into the Itunes/Music/ folders, but the Ipod shuffle still does not play anything. The database appears to be updated, but it still does not play.

I am tempted to just return the ipod shuffle on the excuse that Apple has had several years to work the bugs out of its Itunes install, but it hasn't.

Is there any way to tell the ipod it should be working now, without syncing to Itunes?

Any news with this issue? It seems the fixes to Winamp 5.601 for the other IPods haven't fixed the Shuffle 4G yet.

Workaround

If anyone is looking for a workaround in the mean time, MediaMonkey 3 works fine with the Shuffle 4G.

It's fixed (finally) in Winamp 5.61. My iPod Shuffle 4th gen works fine now when synced using Winamp.

I have ipod shuffle 4G. I have recently installed Winamp to manage my ipod. I used the ml_ipod plugin to transfer music to the Ipod. I could see the files transferred to the IPod. But after I unplug the Ipod from the computer, I cannot play the music on the shuffle. Also, when I plug the shuffle back into the computer, neither the computer nor Winamp recognize the ipod. has the ipod been corrupted? is there a way to solve this? please help.

thanks

@junkax

We don't support the 3rd-party ml_ipod plugin here.
There is a separate forum though for it here:
http://forums.winamp.com/forumdisplay.php?f=69

I personally would recommend removing ml_ipod and just using Winamp's default pmp_ipod plugin.

Maybe someone else might be able to offer advice on how to restore your iPod
(I personally don't even own one, heh. I'm an Android man all the way)
