The SoundMAX driver comes with Win2k...

After reading all the wonderful advice here (thank you all) I decided to look at Device Manager and Driver Details so I could tell if I was updating the correct driver.

It turns out that if you open the Properties of the AC '97 driver, go to its Driver tab, click Update Driver, then Display the known list of drivers, the SoundMAX driver is available without having to download anything. And it fixed my fast playback problem!

Best wishes all!

Winamp 5.22 is also playing too fast

Since Upgrading to Winamp 5.22 I have not been able to play any file at normal speed. This includes mp3, mpg, wav etc.

I however I can play all my files in Media Player Classic

It is only this version of Winamp that has started causing me problems. Previous version work fine. I have reinstalled and nothing has changed.

*It has nothing to do with the files being player, directx or my souncard as I am able to play the files in an alternative player.* Therefore it can only be the player causing the problem.

Until this problem is fixed I guess I will have to revert back to the previous versions unless you have any other suggestions excluding those in *.
