Telephone Numbers in Google.com

Subject: Telephone Numbers in Google.com

If you go to http://www.google.com and type in your telephone number it will actually pull up directions to your house - but there is a way to have your number removed! Many people are unaware of this danger.

Go to www.google.com then type in your phone number (separated by hyphens, including area code, example 000-000-0000) and click on Google Search. If your phone number is listed it will show your name and address and give you two map options. Yahoo and MapQuest. See how accurate the map is to your home. Very Scary!

Any person wishing to discover the physical location of a phone number, be it a home or business address, could use this feature to locate a physical street address, and receive directions on how to get there from anywhere in the country. In the age of the internet communication we all know the dangers of this - for adults and CHILDREN!

Google has made available an option that will allow anyone to REMOVE their telephone number from the database that is linked to the mapping feature.

You will first need to check if your number is listed in this manner by attempting a search-entering your full telephone number separated by dashes (e.g. 555-555-5555). If the number appears in the mapping database, an icon resembling a telephone will appear next to the first or second entry on the results page. Clicking on this icon will take you to a page containing a description of the service, and a link to request your number be removed from the database.

Unlisted numbers and cell phone numbers do not show up.

Yeah, if you know someone's name, you can get onto google and find out a ton of information about them. It's scary - just try looking up stuff about yourself - you'll be amazed what's up there.

Not only is my number not there but my name brings up old biblical leaders and someone who works for a mint. And an artist.

I'm pretty ugly if you see the pictures.

Good thing none of them are me.

It didn't work with my number. I tried my grandmas phone number and it didn't work for her number either.

I tried my name and the only thing that turned up that was about me was a link to the winamp skins database (one of my old winamp 2 skins)

Searching for a mate's phone number "0161 xxx xxxx" reveals his name, address, postcode, and old mobile number. Just the one result.

Searching for his name reveals 8,700 results.

Neither of my phone numbers show up, I specified XD when I signed up.

When I type in my real first and last name (with " " to mark it as one name) I get no result at all from Google...my phone number doesn't work either since I live in Switzerland...so I got at least a tiny bit of privacy left...

Not really. You can slap people around a bit with a phone book.

Wow. This is just sad. Sure, things like this were out before on the internet (reverse lookup), but most people didn't even know what they are. Now any n00b retard can come along and go look on google and find someone's info out. Everyone worries about their privacy this day and age, with the internet being one of the biggest worries. This doesn't help much either. Sure, this information can be gotten from a phone book, but it isn't this fucking READILY ACCESSIBLE. You have to order a phone book and look up the person's name. With this, you can just enter their number and WHAMMO, you just found out their information for your murder for hire, jihad bombing, etc. As I said at the beginning: This is just fucking sad.

"Well, got to love you and leave you, need to go get into the shower and rub my hard naked body all over with soapy bubbles, I'll be back later to carry on playing....

It'll take you some time to get over the image of me naked in the shower......mind you don't masturbate to hard thinking about it...."

My name and number brought stuff up. The name thing could actually lead someone to where I live - it tells what school I go to. I removed my number.

Ooohh people can get your address, wow through your phone number no less. Tell me, how did they get this phone number without knowing you? If they have your phone number and know who you are, chances are, the person wanted you to have their phone number in which case there's no point or you know where they live anyway. If they didn't it would be just the same as picking a random person, finding their address and murdering them, wow, that could happen to anyone, i don't see how this causes any major difference to that. Use your heads people.

when i do a search for my name, there's a bunch of stuff that actually pertains to me, but there's about 588 things total, and apparently you'd be surprised how many famous people in brazil share my exact name. there's one guy who's the vice president of brazil's leading ecological preservation organization, and also a hell of a photographer, there's a famous guy with my name who's apparently a psychosomatic expert. i'm quoted in psychology books () and who knows what else...

[edit: finding more... apparently i'm a famous volleyball player, and the production manager for a jolly ranchers ad campaign]
