Survivor - Alberta Style

Due to the popularity of the Survivor shows, Alberta is planning to do it's own, titled "Survivor - Alberta Style"

The contestants will start in Cold Lake, travel south to Medicine Hat then west to Lethbridge, Fort McLeod and on up to Calgary. Then they will head north to Red Deer and Edmonton. From there they will proceed west to Hinton and north to Grande Prairie, then up along Highway #2 to Peace River, down and over to Slave Lake, Westlock and St. Albert. Then they will go to Ft. Saskatchewan, Vegreville, Vermillion and Bonnyville before eventually returning to Cold Lake.

Each will be driving a pink Volvo with Ontario license plates and a large bumper sticker that reads "I'm a vegetarian, Beer is harmful to your health, Conservatives stink, Rae in 2008, Deer hunting is murder, and I'm here to confiscate your guns."

The first one that makes it back to Cold Lake alive wins.

Good Luck to all contestants

For your sake, I hope none of them do.

I'd like to see anyone try and take my gun. I've never shot at any living thing, but I have no problem shooting liberal scum.

Yes during there American Cheep Car Challenge they took there piles of crap though Alabama after having decorated each others cars in an attempt to get each other killed.

Clarkson's Camero had "Country & Western is Rubbish" down the sides.

James May's Cadillac had "I'm Bi" on the bonnet, Hillary for President down the side and "Nascar Sucks" on the back.

And Hammonds White Pickup had "Man-Love Rules OK" down the side. Dodge turned into "Dodey" and pink eyebrows over the headlamps.

Suffice to say they were accosted at a petrol station and had to make a run for it.

I had to do something rather similar these past two years, surviving South Dakota as a relatively liberal person. Luckily I have a more moderate opinion on the gun thing as I have no problem with my hunting hobby. Really, with tact, a lot of people can respectfully disagree with those who don't share the same opinions if handled with tact. Most of my students' parents are VERY conservative and know ahead of time that I'm on the liberal side (Renee still wears an Obama sticker on her bumper), but they still are happy with what we do for their kids since we only bring up politics when it benefits the lessons (and we present both sides as unbiased as possible, even if it's difficult). Usually, no matter how one-sided someone gets politically, most people I have come across are still capable of a respectful conversation if they put some effort into respecting differences. I try to express that I want to know how people view and feel about things to build some kind of understanding, even if it's completely different from my own views.

Here on the forums I don't tend to do that as much though - I usually just tend to argue my opinion since it's so much easier. It's probably an area where I could use some improvement.

Eh, what is the internet but for arguing and stating opinion? .

I'd like to think that the top gear guys were set upon because of their lack of tact, or blatent piss take to put it bluntly. "Hey they're insulting our bigotry, get'em". I'd like to think that.

It's amazing how many people cling to their guns even though they have little use for them.

But rest assured, Obama's not going to take away your guns. Although apparently a massive amount of rednecks believe that like a religion, so they're all buying up every gun they can get their hands on.

So you would rather some drug addict with a stolen gun break into my house and shoot me? I never once said Obama was going to take my gun. I said 'anyone'. Meaning someone trying to steal it or anything else.

You can't solve society's problems with a gun. Also, I think someone breaking into your house would be much more likely to shoot you if you had a gun than if you didn't.

Violence isn't the solution to any problem. But how do you expect the upstanding people of a community to defend themselves? If I could live in a world without guns, I would. But there's always going to be some dick out there fucking it up for everyone. That's what everyone doesn't get.

edit:

So you're saying if an armed person breaks into your house, you'd rather not have a gun and take the chance of being shot?

edit 2:

I was joking about the liberal thing, I don't know if you got that or not.

Well, I think baafie was saying that no one would likely be willing to pull a trigger if one had all the firepower and the other had none, although you're still stuck being the criminal's bitch until they take what they want and leave.

Around here, you don't hear of break-ins, ever - it'd be stupid, considering almost everyone around here owns quite an arsenal, plus there's nowhere to escape or hide if the criminal gets away with the crime at first. In that sense, the guns do help for protection, but they're all principally hunting guns since that sort of crime doesn't seem to exist.

Plus, your sig has 8,138 reasons for someone to shoot you, so you might need that extra firepower for protection.

I'm quite a disappointment to liberals when it comes to most hunting and pistol gun issues, but quite a disappointment to the conservatives when it comes to things like fully automatic weapons, even if they don't really represent a significant portion of crime.

@ widdy - nice comeback lol

I'm stuck in the middle. I don't think the ability to own fully automatic weapons is necessary, but a handgun, or a shotgun should be sufficient for self defense. An outright ban of all guns is not the way to go. I also don't agree with conservatives on religion, abortion, homosexuality, and a few other things. I do agree with the smaller government though. Big gov't = big problems imo. I'm not sure what you would call me.

I guess I'm a conservative liberal. Or would it be a liberal conservative?

edit: It's now 8139 reasons.

I don't agree with them, but sadly, many people do think that homosexuality is basically an infectious disease.

They think power of persuasion/peer pressure/social experimentation causes it to be 'contagious'. They also blame the spread of AIDS and other specific sexual transmitted diseases on gay people.

It is quite ignorant if you ask me.

Don't you understand humor?

I grew up hearing "blame the liberals, blame the liberals blah blah blah". What I've come to understand is that there are people on the left and right (if you want to call it that) that are scum, not just one side.

Also, see above

I grew up watching the liberals spit on soldiers, burn down their colleges, destroy major cities and scream about any injustice to invoke anarchy. Did I think their actions were based in any fight against injustice? No. Just a bunch of angry assholes who liked to break stuff, eat acid, read Vonnegut and listen to Jethro Tull.

They shaved their sideburns, put their bras back on and ran for Congress but never lost their taste for rabble rousing, Karl Marx or Kurt Vonnegut.

Sorry I missed your joke(s), Ryan. sometimes, actually ofttimes subtlety doesn't translate well online.

Hey, what's wrong with Vonnegut? Player Piano and Slaughterhouse 5 are two of my favorite books. there's a tiny bit of rabble rousing stuff in Player Piano, but it's mainly aimed at the giganto corporations flattening out our culture and reducing our choices as humans. It's literature and meant to provoke thoughtful analysis of the human condition.

"Which is worse, ignorance or indifference?"

"I don't know, and I don't care."

That figures. What's wrong with Vonnegut? What's wrong with the dribbling of an acid head?

Vonnegut became an anti-establishment marxist folk hero for all of the acid eating, free love college kids who were going to change the world while stoned.

By the time I got into high school, there will still vestiges of the generation that fell out of a microbus and bounced on their head too many times. Some ran for Congress, some went to prison, some we had to try to get out of a tree:

"No dude! Come down out of the tree! You are not Jesus and you can't fly! No, you are not on Tralfamadore!"

That was just about the time all the free love gays started dying like flies with what would later be known as AIDS.

1980. I was 18. Free love party over.

I like South Park.

And I agree. What is wrong with US society is a bunch of unthinking cultists zeroxed to babble liberal rhetoric about acceptance of global warming..... or was it nuclear winter? What injustice are we going to invent; what victim are we going to create and pretend to fix today for our 40 year old failed social experiment? It doesn't really matter.
