hmmm seems everyone is to lazy to click on the links so ill just sum it up!

The danish equivalent of the RIAA, have been cruising around on KaZaa and E-Donkey finding danish users with illigally shared files, then they have made screendumps and found ip-numbers of the users, got the real name and adresses from the internet providers and sent a nice little bill for all your illigaly shared files.

That sucks. I hope the capitalist pigs in the RIAA leave their post one way or another...

150 dollars?!! That seems a little amount to be payed....could you possibly explain the breakdown of the bill?

See what I'm listening too.

I agree to this in principle. Copyright holders have every right to enforce the rights to their creations. I must admit, though, the evidence that copyrights were actually broken is a bit circumstantial. There is no definite way to ensure that a file is actually a copyrighted work without actually opening it up. You couldn't just go by the metrics of a file (i.e. size, name, etc.). For that, you'd need a search warrant.

As for a breakdown of the fine, read the articles. It's very fair.

Album: 8 dollars
Movie: 27 dollars
Game: 41 Dollars

If you don't accept the settlement, and go to the court, they will double the prices

At the moment the APG is targeting people who are offering music and films -for free - for other people to download. It has no plans at the moment to target end-users.

No doubt this approach will be viewed as a means of "scaring" some people from obtaining material illegally.
How would that worry people who are obtaining files, if theyre only going after the people who allow uploading??

That's quite bad.

However, I can't see what the problem with sharing the files is. They could easily be legitemate ones that the user had bought the actual album for. You could just deny all knowledge of the software, and send back the bill surely?

according to danish law, it is illegal to share copyrightened files, even if the mp3 actually is legal....

Ofcourse alot of the people who have got those chrismas letter have tried to talk to lawyer, and they all, without exception, advice you to pay up

I'll say.

I just went to a rock expo thing where they had used and rare CDs and stuff, and I got a Nirvana CD for 8 bucks. Pretty nice too.

As for those record people, I say "Death to Pigs!" They deserve a damn good whacking. Yeah, you know what I said.

Not if you already bought it for £6.99 from Amazon, and are being done for actually sharing your own stuff....

Its so stupid! We should be able to up/download files if we want to, and anyway, catching a few people isnt going to help! there are well over a million users on kazaa!
