How was 2007 for you?

For me it was better than 2006.

If I had to use one word to describe 2007 for me it would be "work".

Well all of you have a great 2008!

Personally? Let's see...

Spring semester Chemistry fucked me over
Fall semester Calculus I fucked me over
Got pulled over by a cop for speeding from a tailgater
Stupid-ass battery and alternator died on me leaving me broken down and carless for two days over the summer
Step-mom and dad got divorced (But at least are now good friends)
Didn't get a Saturday scheduled off from work between August or September until this upcoming Saturday (January 5; I hate retail)
Christmas season hours at Target worked me like a goddamn slave (But I got a damn good paycheck)

On the other hand, it's all the little every year shit that still made 2007 good...Fun times, fun spending (Since I've had my job since November 2006, making 2007 my first full year of work), met some new people at work and college, and other stuff...

So 2007 is pretty much like any other year; Full of shit, but I can still bring up optimistic excuses...

Time for a trip down memory lane....
  • February: On the 19th I turned 21 years old and bought myself a Zen mp3 player. Got a new license plate and ID, used the latter to purchase first bottle of alcohol.
  • March: Cousin left for Iraq as a combat engineer in the Marines.
  • April: Quit smoking on the 12th, bought a guitar to congratulate myself.
  • August: Yearly vacation to Michigan's upper peninsula, spent a week in a cabin on a small lake. Went jet-skiing for the first time.
  • September: School started.
  • October: Decided to change major to study radiologic technology.
  • December: Drove more than 500 miles to Nashville to finally visit a very special friend, one that I've known for almost nine years but had before met. Cousin returned home from Iraq. Got my first keyboard for Christmas.
Overall, 2007 was a bit of a drag. It had a few great moments but for the most part it sucked. Another year has gone by and I'm still working my shit job at the gas station. I'd love to move out of state but I simply can't afford to right now. I'm really hoping that 2008 will bring with it many new and exciting opportunities and experiences.

Spiral out, my friend. You will find your way back to yourself, we all will.
I'll be waiting, and shall see you on the other side...

The last third rocked.

Seriously.

University might just stop be from being a cynical cunt with no real experience of what life can offer. And for that, I'm grateful I realised that university might be my ticket out of drudgery and actually worked fucking hard for my exams early in the year.

Was average for me. I Read Carl Sagan's "Cosmos" which made me realise I need to get off my ass and get back into education because I'm actually pretty smart.

That's about it. Was all a bit bleh.

I got a pill to retract my herpes and prevent me from spreading it to my partner...It won't cure my herpes, but I'll still smile to that and I'm still fuckin' happy!

Let's see, cervical disc disease was diagnosed fifteen months and two major surgeries ago. Six screws and a 4cm titanium plate hold my neck together. Well, those and the two chunks of cadaver bone fused into my spine. The muscles in my left shoulder and arm are beginning to atrophy from lack of use. Consciousness is pain, even through the 150mg of morphine I take every day. Speaking of medications, I take more in a day than most doctors prescribe in a week. And there's a bonus: If I'm ever severely injured, they won't be able to relieve the pain because I'll be almost immune to opioids, on which all of the most effective pain medications are based! Woot!

The best way I can describe the actual sensation is like this: Have you ever hit the "funny bone" in your elbow and notice that it hurts like hell for about a second, and then the pain subsides? Well take that peak one second of pain, multiply it a few times, imagine it engulfing your neck, a shoulder and an arm, and then stretch out its duration to a year. That's how 2007 was for me.

(I'm not fishing for sympathy. This was intended as a full-bore, tongue-in-cheek rant. Nothing jades you more than chronic pain.)

I'm a psychosomatic sister running around without a leash.

Me too. I left a job that had become a joke and started working essentially for myself at a gig I really love. I'm making more money than i ever have before and I'm actually happy to get up and go to work.

current state: i have a new roof and a full stock of firewood against the cold and a new set of strings on my Strat. Life could be a helluva lot worse.

At year's beginning, I was a single school counselor living in a forrest-surrounded lakeside house in Akron, Ohio.

Then this happened.

Now, at year's end, I am married, living in a different time zone more than 1,200 miles away in a place that is surrounded by an ocean of grassland, working as a computer teacher, something I was never formally trained to do.

You're halfway there.

No matter how good things get, a past entire year could have been better.

2007 was pretty good for me. And as long as I don't fuck things up (which I'm very good at), 2008 should be pretty good as well. I've managed to save up over five digits worth in my primary checking account, I'm finally getting my credit established, and I'm hoping to be able to move up north before the end of the year.

2008 is already not looking good...I have to take Calc 1 again this semester, since dispite getting a D and earning the necessary credit, I need a C or higher to move onto Calc 2 (At least I have a different professor this time around; If I actually do good in this class, someone's gonna get an ass-kicking; If I still do bad, I'm giving myself an ass-kicking)...I also got into an accident a while ago, where a bitch cut me off and our bumpers clipped (She was at fault, but I still have to get my car fixed, and that Friday, I was hoping to get my engine diagnosed the following Saturday; Now that's the check-up's the least of my worries, until I figure out how much her insurance is gonna pay me for repair costs)...

Even worse, my favorite pair of green Quiksilver jeans has fallen apart on me after nearly 5 years of wear...Good thing I have a second pair of them...

For about a month, I was stalked in RL, and a friend passed away in the late summer. I still consider 2007 a good year. There have been worse.
