Films shot in your backyard

Not the type you shot of your wife with a videocamera you bought down the market, or your neighbours, but films that are filmed in your town.

I guess places like Los Angeles, New York and London are bit obvious, but if it's a small suburb that you live in of those cities than it's worth a mention.

The film If... was largely shot where I live and my dad remembers it being filmed and having a mooch round the locations to see what was going on.

It's one of my favourite flicks so it's an extra bonus that I can walk to see the places that they worked at.

Poltergeist and Ocean's Eleven, among other films, used parts of the UC Irvine campus in their movies.

I guess it's one of the very few reasons to be proud to be attending UCI.

Parts of Dawn of the Dead were shot in my original hometown of Mercer, PA. Parts of Dances with Wolves were literally shot on my current property (I didn't own it at the time). We have a museum for it nearby.

Heh, I don't live there anymore, but it turns out that some of it [the land (near Winner, South Dakota)] is being considered for purchase by the state as a protected natural grassland.
