I seem to have found an issue with podcast handling. I am not sure if this happened in prior versions or not.

Sometimes when you find a new podcast, they give the itunes link and then you have to download a couple in itunes, then grab the podcast URL and then add it into winamp.

I did that today and I noticed that the metadata that is coming from the itunes downloaded podcasts is different from the ones coming from Winamp. I don't know if itunes is doing something on their side or if winamp is not downloading everything.

If you need examples, let me know.
Thanks

Winamp 5.7 Open Beta with Winamp Cloud Beta, build 3315 to 3323 changelog

* Fixed: [in_vorbis] Not reading Disc# (plus other general Vorbis Comments fixes)

* Fixed: [pmp_android] Albumart-related crash when transferring ogg files

* Fixed: Deletion of 0-byte wdl*.tmp & wht*.tmp files

- Fixed broken SHOUTcast TV stream urls (serverside & clientside fixes)

- Keep 'Safe Mode' confirmation dialog on top

Though note that playback might not necessarily be working yet.... (w.i.p.)

- Note: the above two changes required a local cloud db nuke bump & rescan
(Please wait for "first pull" to complete before using Cloud features)

(click on line to stop auto-scroll, spacebar to resume)

- Optimized cloud device view loading times (should be considerably faster)

Heads up:

I downloaded the new Beta 2 version. I restarted it in safe mode to test out the dialog (it's fixed by the way. ) but I also noticed that Winamp still loaded bpembededart.w5s (and was showing the modification to the Unified File Info Pane that plugin does to the Artwork Type combo box.)

that's expected with safe mode at the moment until i can finish off handling of component dlls (trying to avoid the need to white-list but that seems the most logical option currently). and as there are very few 3rd party w5s files floating about, i didn't deem it such a high priority for something which i added in when i probably shouldn't have.

Also with Beta 2 and Windows 7.
It seems that the Podcast handling wants to download the same podcasts over again even when they have been downloaded once. I have attached a screenshot of my downloads View so you can see what I mean. I cannot see any reasoning for it. I have my podcast directory set to update when I open the program. I have also attached my preferences.

So as you know I'm screwing around with embedded album art but I've run across a crash issue in the new Beta v2. Attaching Koopa info tool report and an AAC file to replicate the error with.

To replicate:
  • Insert a file into Winamp playlist with embedded art already in it.
  • Copy an image to the Windows clipboard.
  • Attempt to update the cover art with the Unified File Information Pane by pasting in the image in the Windows clipboard.
  • ?????
  • Profit!

No third party plugins (including any of mine) installed. Fresh clean install with a minimal set of core plugins installed. Windows XP Home SP3 updated.

[EDIT]
With bpembededart.w5s installed and my debugger attached it happens during the call to api_albumart::SetAlbumArt(...) where the parameters incoming are as follows
HTML Code:
api_albumart::SetAlbumArt(
const wchar_t * filename, //Non NULL (and is valid file name)
const wchar_t * type, //Non NULL (and is valid) L"cover"
	int w, //set to 0
	int h, //set to 0
const void * bits, //Non NULL
size_t len, //non 0 (looks like an appropriate file size)
	const wchar_t * mimeType //NULL
)

i already know about the issue (and is one of the reasons why we hadn't gotten around to natively enabling the mode...), i just haven't had the time (as was already conveyed in the other thread about your component) that things are in-progress on the updates needed to ensure the unified alt+3 pages will preserve the artwork at the original level of detail.

it is a beta for a reason from what i remember late on sunday night when i was working on the artwork side of things, it's most likely from it not liking a null 'mimetype' parameter - but that's something which needs to be fixed up internally as part of making sure when we are saving artwork, if it's the same type as the source, then it'll output the raw image instead of the raw -> decoded -> re-encoded mess that is currently going on.

the POPM unique id is fixed, but a small issue to report: on a m4a, when you rate it in the ML, it does NOT update in the top center pane, which is unlike id3 or vorbis files. (meaning, while the file is currently playing)

I guess this is the place to post this...

While I've been having other issues (as mentioned in my tech support thread) though they are fixed, I through it ended up using the beta. Now that I'm using it 'for real' I noticed a very odd thing -- the right context menu is a lot bigger. That is, it's much much wider than it used to be.
I assume this is intentional, but it's pretty jarring. I assume there's no way to fix it, but perhaps there is in the ini? If not, could it possibly be made an option?

if you right click a song in the ML tracks pane, esp if it has a long title, the context menu will be bigger, from left to right. I think previously it used to [maybe?] truncate the text, but I don't see a problem with this way.

Yeah, it's because of the "Display tracks in this view by artist/from album: x" items & the Playlist Generator "View tracks similar to x" item.
The longer the artist/album/title, the wider the menu.

You can get rid of the "View tracks similar to..." item by removing ml_plg.dll
but the two Display tracks.... items come with ml_local. Delete that and there'll be no Local Media views....

It used to just say "Play tracks by artist/from album".
I can't remember for sure why we changed it, tbh,
other than it happening when we added the Playlist Generator menu item,
but that was a couple of years or so ago....

I remember this struck me as a bit clumsy at the time.

View tracks by <Artist>
View tracks from <album>

seems to be all that's needed.

Well it could be because I had to do all that reinstalling and so on, but even with small titles it still does it.'

Thankfully, removing that plugin does indeed fix it. I can't use it anyway given I don't use the media library.

Thanks

no, plays fine.

I couldn't just click the link, IE10 on win7 just tried to save it when I clicked open. couldn't drag the link to winamp either.

so instead I said "play url" and copied the link in there and I hear the beatles, 32kbps 22khz stereo.

With either X-Fade or BogProg Support for Opus installed the crash is being caused by the input plugin (NOT MINE!!!!!) returning a value between zero and negative nine-hundred ninety nine from the call to GetLength() on streams. I have no idea how in_bpopus.dll or in_bpxfade.dll could be causing an input plugin to return a value like that but somehow just the presence is causing it.

I am of the belief, however, that gen_ff should not be crashing when it receives a value from a plugin it does not like.

I was able to get X-Fade to get ogg playback streams to not crash by first checking the value in_vorbis.dll returns and modifying it to -1000 to stop gen_ff from crashing.

This is also happening in 5.623 so it's not specific to the Beta. Apparently it's been that way for a while.

i've tried it with 3323 and i can replicate the crash, however using a newer internal build i'm not seeing the crash so is possible i've already fixed the issue since 3323 (as there have been a few gen_ff value handling fixes made). though i will try to re-verify things properly from the crash report tomorrow.

Is this normal?

In the screenshot the Modern Skin instance is 5.623 while the one with Winamp Classic is the latest Beta.

I don't usually ever mess with any of the Media Library functionality but I happen to just catch a glimpse of those 4 evil square boxes when I was switching from Winamp Modern to Winamp Classic (the ML window has an annoying habit of popping up when I do that.) I usually just close it (which I did) but not just before noticing that from the corner of my eye. Both files being pointed at are an opus test vector file and an ogg file that I generated using Winamp's transcoder function from.

I originally copied the characters from a Wikipedia article for a different language (I forget which) to test my unicode string support in the Opus plugin.

Link to the 7z archive of the very test vectors shown in the screenshot:

before even starting to look into this, why 5.623 when the last official build is 5.63 ? as eally this thread is for issues with the 5.7 beta so you cloud potentially be looking at at an issue from 2 releases back...

as for the blocks, that is because the font the listview is trying to use to display the text cannot match the characters to a corresponding glyph in the font and so a box is the default (like a ? for invalid / unknown utf-8, etc).

and of the two files, only the ogg one shows me the same text (haven't tried on XP) and the opus one didn't see a tag (though i probably don't have the correct version of your plug-in installed).

[edit]
ok both now show ok now that i've got the supporting opus dlls (3 dlls - wtf is that all about??) in the Winamp\Plugins folder instead of having put them in the root Winamp folder as all other supporting dlls typically get placed (just a shame it's a pain to force all of those dlls to be in a sub-folder to cleanup the root of the Winamp folder).

I'll look into adding the root folder to the search path for dynamically loading the DLLs when I do the installer. At the moment there's no installer to automatically include the files so it's just easier to code for and tell people to drop the 3 DLLs (I don't get that either) into the plugins folder since the user would already have it open anyways.

And 5.623 because it's an instance running from a folder I hadn't updated yet. lulz I've got 3 different instance folders, two for testing and debugging purposes and one for general use. It's just easier for me that way.

[EDIT/]
Ah, I found the check-box in the media library appearance settings: "Media Library uses same font as Playlist Editor". When I un-check it, it shows up like it should.

Is it possible to have an option to not update the modified timestamp when updating tags/ratings etc. In my ipod, podcasts are sorted by modified timestamp, so changing these screws up their chronological order. Ive been manually resetting the file modified times to their creation times for ever, quite frankly i shouldn't have to.

Going to add some "Good News" in here too with a "Not a bug any more" report.

I have a 2011 HP Laptop with an Intel HD 3000 graphics chip. Last month, pre-beta, this hated Milkdrop and would spit out Shader 3.0 errors. (Basically Milkdrop didn't like Intel's version of Shader 3.0)

Just installed the Beta on that laptop, reset the Milkdrop config to default, and now all works GREAT. Certainly pretty

I'm not sure if it's to do with the new winamp or not but I think it is.

The following is an RSS feed which used to work quite fine:
http://hhwlod.com/index.php?Itemid=1...eed&format=raw

No longer updates.

When i try to readd this one says it's not a correct RSS.

What's the issue?

joe: the simple reason for the issue is the feed is now invalid.

the more detailed reason is there is <image url="url_to_jpeg"/> in the feed provided which is invalid according to our xml parser and also feed validator which leads to our xml parser aborting on the file (which is reasonable to do though i'm sure that'll be disagreed with).

because of that you get the error that you do and it's only something that has appeared in their feed recently hence the recent failure you've been getting. this is something they really need to fix as i don't see it's good to try to hack up the xml parser to deal with something like this (plus i wouldn't even know where to start doing that in the expat library).

Devs,

i'm not pushing for a final release or anything like that, but it might be helpful to get a newer beta out, as I can't get any of the cloud stuff to work at all.

if a newer beta has resolved any of the cloud issues, I could actually provide some feedback beyond "nothing works."

or, if you have advice as to things I could do here locally to try to get the cloud working again, either locally or remotely, i'm game to try.

the more detailed reason is there is <image url="url_to_jpeg"/> in the feed provided which is invalid according to our xml parser and also feed validator which leads to our xml parser aborting on the file (which is reasonable to do though i'm sure that'll be disagreed with).

because of that you get the error that you do and it's only something that has appeared in their feed recently hence the recent failure you've been getting. this is something they really need to fix as i don't see it's good to try to hack up the xml parser to deal with something like this (plus i wouldn't even know where to start doing that in the expat library).
Cheers mate, I'll ask the site if there's a way for them to change the RSS feed address or if you know any other solutions let me know.

Much appreciated.

It's mainly just the <image url="path.to.image.jpg"> tag which is invalid.
Winamp tries to display the <image> but the parser can't read it because the code is invalid xml.
It should be: <image><url>path.to.image.jpg</url></image> instead, or:
<itunes:image href="path.to.image.jpg" />

Hey

Please could you post details in the Cloud forum?
(or send it to the feedback email address provided on Labs)

What error messages are you seeing?
Attach a log (saved via: Prefs > Cloud Sources > Logging tab > Save)

With Winamp closed, have you tried deleting the local cloud.db file? (%appdata%\winamp\cloud)
Make a backup of it first, in case we need to examine it later.
What happens on Winamp restart? Can you log in to cloud ok (via Cloud Sources view)?
Note that you'll need to wait for "First pull complete" message (in Logging tab) before being able to use the Cloud features.
