now what

here is another weird twist....

now if i run winamp from a different computer running windows 2k pro, i get a bsod on the xp machine with a different error code.

this one is:

driver_irql_not_less_or_equal

0x000000d1 (0x0000008, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0xf76cdf35)

and it lists ndis.sys as the problem driver.

now what??

I had irql_not_less_or_equal BSODs with WinXP
when i had ACPI support enabled.
But don't, *DO NOT*
change ACPI setting if you don't want
to reinstall system right away.

I am currently using winamp 2.81 because I don't like Winamp 3 as much. I have a Soundblaster 5.1 and every once in a while...I will goto skip to a different track and winamp will lockup and I will have to pres Ctrl+alt+del and close the winamp process and then restart winamp. This also happens when I am playing counter-strike and using HLamp. This all started way before I downloaded HLamp so that's not to blame. Is there anyway to fix this?

The latest version of Winamp is 2.91 (with 2.92 due very soon)
Winamp3 is a separate/different product/player.

If you insist on keeping 2.81 (2.91 fixes lots of 2.8x bugs)
then first you should make sure you've installed the 2.8x wa2update patch
(which I'm sure you must've already done, if you've read the sticky threads at the top of the wa2 bugs forum).
Note: wa2update patch is only intended for 2.8x and should NOT be installed with 2.9x

Apart from that, we can't honestly help you much further.
If you upgrade to 2.91 and the problem persists, then we will need to know the following:

System specs:
pc or mobo make/model, cpu, ram, video, windows os, directx version

Winamp related:

File types played when the problem occurs
(mp3, wav, wma, midi, ogg, mod, audio cd, other, all?)

Whether the problem occurs with both WaveOut & DirectSound Outputs
(Prefs -> Plugins -> Output -> hi-lighted plugin = the active one)

Have you installed ANY 3rd-party plugins?
If so, which? (forget about vis plugins, unless one is active at the time)

The problem could also be related to some other concurrently running software/process? So a list of these could also help us to help you.

First of all I thought I was running 2.91 but I was really running
2.81...so I went and downloaded 2.91 and still have the same problem.

I built this pc myself specs below:

MOBO: Soyo Dragon Ultra Platinum edition KT400 Chipset
CPU: AMD Athlon xp 1800+ 1.53 Ghz (Not overclocked)
RAM: 384 MB Generic 2100 DDR (Not overclocked)
VIDEO: ATI Radeon 9000 64 MB DDR with TV out
SOUND: SBLive 5.1 Dolby Digital
OS: Windows XP Pro
DIRECTX 8.1

The only filetypes I use in winamp is MP3's...also if it may help
when winamp freezes I usually have a lot of files (over 1000) on
my playlist and it's on shuffle.

The output plugin highlighted is DirectSound output v2.2.6 [out_ds.dll]

No 3rd-party plugins installed? (mainly: gen, dsp/fx, input)
Did you try a clean install of 2.91?

I've a feeling it could be one or more of your mp3's to blame.
It's possible that some of them are corrupted?
Test your mp3 dir with MP3Utility
Remove any files it says are damaged/corrupt.

I'm having a problem getting WinAmp to play .m3u files... I never used to, but all of a sudden I click on a link and it won't load... Now the funny thig is if I right click on the link, copy the shortcut, and paste the url it will play it! It plays everything else just fine... I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling... All the file types are selected and I even went into other programs and deselected those... Nothing seems to work... Has anyone experienced this or knows what I can do to fix this problem?

Greetings,

I am new to the forum and also having problems with computer lockups using Winamp 2.91 or 5.03 with the audigy2 soundcard. I do not have Mediasource or any of the Nomad software installed since I have been long aware of the problems caused by creative's additional software (since the SBLive days). No Nomad dlls ever installed. I am really very disappointed that the creative drivers and still so buggy after how many years of development?

The lockups occur while playing cds only (not mp3) usually after 3 to 6 tunes. My computer lockups completely requiring a hard reset, with no Microsoft error messages upon reboot. FYI, no problem playing CDs with Media Player 9, but I so much prefer using Winamp.

I have done some research and found out that the lockups only occur if the "enable digital audio extraction" is checked in the cd/linein plugin configuration - in_cdda.dll. I have tried the cdreader plugin and my system lockups even quicker, sometimes right away.

I want to use Winamp's EQ for cds and the DAE must be checked to activate this capability, etc. If anyone knows a solution please let me know. By the way, I have tried all the different patches for the known via chipset SBLIVE/Audigy pci latency problem with no success. I have the latest Via 4in1 drivers. My computer configuration is as follows:

Windows XP Pro
IE 6.0
AMD 1.2 Athalon
Gigabyte 7ZXE VIA KT133A Chipset
Audigy2 ZS - latest driver 5.12.1.443 2/23/2004
512 SDRAM
HP CD-Writer 9300
HP DVD-Writer 300i
NVidia GForce 4 MX440SDL
Western digital 40g hardrive

Sounds more like an ASPI related issue.

Try unchecking both "use sonic engine" and "sample input from soundcard" in in_cdda config, and use one of the wnaspi32.dll aspi-layer managers from this thread.

DJ Egg,

I copied and replaced the wnaspi32.dll in the windows system 32 directory and so far all is working OK. I will let you know if I have any other problems and thanks for all the help.

Hah

I just wanted to post that I randomly found this thread today because I just setup a new computer with some old spare parts and I put in the old SBLive! 5.1 with winamp of course. Sure enough that problem came up again, and i searched for the solution because i couldnt remember what file i had to get rid of. And i find my original thread from 3 years ago with the answer and about 2 pages of replies that are still somewhat current. funny shit.
