You have used a censored word. Please remove this word.

WTF?!

The link get consored by this:

There are countless others; these are just the ones I remembered for the moment. There are ways around this e.g. I can make it look uncensored:

growth

but that's a work-around.

Honestly I don't mind the censor at all, because it's pretty easy for me to work around it if I'm using the words in question in a non-spam way. It's actually entertaining to discover some of them.

I can understand it's frustrating to see your entire country blocked though... I mean, I chose a .net domain for my site but if I could have just as easily gone for .nl. If that would be blocked, I'd be pissed too.

tinyurl.com was banned for that exact reason. it surprises me bit.ly and goo.gl are still available. I don't trust links like that. You never know where you end up.

I think the mods are reactive rather than working from a list. It's probably that no one bit them from the shorteners I mentioned. My hosts file blocks all the shorteners, but I haven't been bit so it's probably paranoid. I think they get used more for legitimate stuff than malware.

Still it does not make a slightest sense to censor whole country domains and let the redirect sites work...

And how the "heap of spam" can't be avoided when only registred users can post there? That also did not make any sense at all.

It may not in theory, but in practice, the powers that be have discovered that this works better than any alternative attempted in the past.

I'm being pretty vague here, but really, it's a matter of who does what, through which means, and from where. Equal isn't always fair and fair is not always equal, etc. It's mostly just a balancing issue - answering the question of what prevents problems the most while inconveniencing as few well-meaning potential members as possible.

Personally i think that any censorship system that will cut out the middle of a word is just bad programming either you use string matching on a word to word basis or you leave it the heck alone when your censoring strings of characters inside of other strings your breaking everything not just filtering bad words

I for one would add wrong capitalization of "Winamp" to the black list (WinAMP / WinAmp / WINamp / etc). Does that sounds too fascist?
