Ripped iPod won't play

I just downloaded the latest version of Winamp and ripped my music from my iPod into the library successfully (or so I thought). Unless the iPod is plugged in, the tracks won't play and winamp quickly scrolls through all the songs. I also can't find the music files on my computer. I'm not sure which gen ipod I have but I've had this one for about 3 years. Any ideas?
