So keep using it. It still plays music.
I still don't get all this noise about Winamp "dying". Development is dead. The app isn't. |

Why can't a developer come in here and tell us something?

It's kinda sad there's no development.
i might be wrong, but i think if the name wasn't probably copyrighted, anyone with coding knowledge could mantain it and maybe even get a load of patreon money for it. |

With carefully selected plug-ins it became and remained my go to app for playing music files and listening to internet radio until 3 years ago when I switched to WACUP (which is being actively developed by DrO, a major developer for Winamp v5.666.3516).

Has it stopped working? Works just as I want it. Cheers Gerry |

I will have a huge problem if Winamp stops working properly after some Windows 10 update [like in case of 5.666 being run on W10]
I have no perfect but good enough and productive combo of tweaked Mp3tag & Winamp; and of: old NCH Switch Sound File Converter Plus 4.35, out of date Sony Sound Forge 7.0 and up-to-date AIMP converter; plus Spek and heavily tweaked FreeCommander. Put all together they create a productive environment for my workflow And so if any of these pieces breaks - the whole system breaks. With the Winamp and Mp3tag being its core |

It still works well for audio.
Winamp is sadly dead. Technology marched too forward for it to be considered useful by the massses. But Winamp is not forgotten. When Generation X and Xennials die out it will be forgotten. |

You are right in what you say while Winamp hasn't seen any development for 7 years other software and technology has made it practically redundant for me at least. Winamp was a great little media player 22 years ago but sadly those Glory days are long gone Even if Radionomy got a developer on the case of Winamp 6 it wouldn't have the fanbase it once had. |

Many people are, because from a version up and later, Winamp was unable to run at multiple instances.
15 years ago we seen dedicated software for Radio Mix and radio broadcast, and Winamp lost it popularity for this application. I think that for as long some one using Nullsoft DirectSound plug-in as output, Winamp will never stop working at Windows operating systems. Microsoft DirectSound this is there since Win95. |

I have winamp still running on multiple computers and on one version 5.581 is running and that will still allow you to run multiple instances of winamp . as far as i know 5.666 isn't that much younger. |

Still the best music player out there, where it went wrong was trying to make it into a general media center.
We need a new version that strips out everything unrelated to music playback, no video support needed, no browser (what was the point of that anyway) etc. |

I do agree browser pretty stupid. I've a feeling that should Winamp 6.0 ever be released, it won't be the Winamp we know and love. But again, good thing version 5.8 works pretty damn good. So we can still use it. |

There was an option that let the internal browser be used to pull info (bio info, concert dates, etc.) from the internet related to the artist of the song being played. That ended when AOL sold Winamp.
