Depends, if it's just the trimmed version that 5.8 is supposed to be (and stable) then maybe. But if it's radionomified then I wouldn't touch it.

I suspect this is what Egg was using when development stopped. Back then he said he was excited about it but it wasn't ready for release. DrO was gone by then (altho his last work was in it) and I think some of the other ex devs who used to work on winamp were contributing free code just bc they love winamp like we all do.

(Idk anything about the "fork" that DrO was doing separately post his official departure)

So anyway, assuming this is what Egg was using, it was unfinished in his opinion at that time, as I recall, bc it didn't have autotag, or JTFE which DrO decided to revoke their use of. Idk what, if anything else, was an issue. The article claims this is an official release but unstable. I would argue it's not official if posted anonymously, but it might be a product made by official sources. In addition, it may or may not be unstable as the article claims. I would guess it's MORE stable, but I have yet to try it. The article provides no light as to it's claims of instability.

I wish the entire source code would be released so any dev can work on it.

I downloaded and scanned it with ESET and got no warnings, and it does appear to be signed by a "Winamp SA". OTOH, the signature digest algorithm, sha1, is now considered insecure as of last year.

IDK what to do ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Me too. Brings to my mind Next Thing Co who went bankrupt. They were a competitor to stuff like Raspberry Pi, seemed very cool to me, but they had some serious issues/failures fulfilling orders. Anyway, at least all their code was open source. Anyway, I'm rambling

I'm sure it's legit, but meh, nothing really exciting about it. It's just a more stripped version of 5.666

I just saw they are bringing back winamp and I'M SO FREAKING HYPED! I really don't like any other players. I listen to a lot of original audio rips from old video games, and the very few other players than can also play them are just terrible in design. Can't wait for a new version.
