How can I make a sound byte?

Hello, I don't know if I'm in the right place for this, I just downloaded Winamp for the first time 30 minutes ago. I believe it was the 5.3 version. Anyway I'm interested in capturing parts of songs to use as sound bytes. Here's a for instance, let's say you're hosting a football party and every time the other team misses a field goal you want to play Phil Collins singing "I missed again uh huh" and stop. Currently I have to cue up the song to that part. I'd like to just capture "I missed again uh huh" and have plenty of that stuff at my disposal so all I have to do is point and click.

If your songs are mp3: mp3DirectCut
otherwise: Audacity (or some other audio editor)
