Can't access external wan ip address

Hi my name is Mike and I am having a problem accessing my external wan ip address from my ISP through shoutcast. I can access the shoutcast admin page with my servers ip address but can't connect through shoutcast with the wan ip from other computers.
I am running Windows XP Professional on the server and my ISP is verizon the model of the modem that I am using is a westell 7500 with a static ip address assigned to it. Can someone please help with a solution to this problem.

Thanks

If you can access the stream from within the network but not from outside the network, then it sounds like you have port forwarding problems to deal with. Do you happen to see nak errors in the DNAS logs as well?

Head over to www.portforward.com to learn how to setup port forwarding for your hardware. Also, remember to be mindful of software such as Windows Firewall, NIS, ZoneAlarm, etc.

what is the ip?

is it not working or is it the fact you just cant see it?

Post the ip / port and the logs from the server and we can try and help.

Mike,

Sounds like a firewall is blocking external access to your SHOUTcast server.

Check that your firewall is allowing port access for the port number (and the port number +1) for your server (e.g. port 8000 and 8001).

As Nick@ss suggested - it might be useful to see your server logs as these will give a clearer indication of what is happening.

Hi the wan ip address is 71.249.217.215 the port i am assigning it to is 8000. This is the static ip address that verizon assigned to me now I can access it through the server ip address which is 192.168.1.16:8000 which works and allows me to get access to the other computers to access the radio station I checked all firewall and port forwarding settings and everything seems fine the server logs reported no error I just can't figure out why the computers can't see the wan ip address to access the station in shoutcast.

computers INSIDE your lan wont see the WAN ip address unless your router does (I think it's called) loopback for the wan IP - not a common function in run of the mill routers

Is it just me or are shoutcast users getting dumber?

If using the Zyxel routers supplied by Century Link (a large isp in the U.S.), in Advanced settings of the router look for "DNS Host Mapping". In that setting add your public DNS host name and the local ip address of your shoutcast server. Then when you enter the public ip in your browser, or media player on your local area network, the router will automatically map it to your local shoutcast server.

Make sure your ip is public... if its private then you are are like on a NAT with your provider. Same thing as like your home network. But you can't port forward with your ISP.
