Normalization

It would be nice if Winamp could have a feature that would make all the mp3's in the playlist play at the same volume, regardless of the way they were created, so you don't go from loud to soft on different quality songs.

Well, it's possible to program a plugin to do this.

I would anticipating it having to read entire files ahead of what is currently playing and find the peak volume, then applying a relative gain during playback.

Click Here for a search for "normalize" in Winamp plugin files.

It's probably much simpler to run software that applies a normalizer to your files beforehand. I'm sure there are lots of software products / projects that do this. I wouldn't want software that has to re-compress my files though..

Cheers

first of all, I suggest you take a look at ReplayGain
basicly, there a re two options for apply the gain, either before encoding with WaveGain , or for mp3s via MP3Gain .

This should be included with winamp. I hate relying on third-party plugins.

Replaygain is all time issue.
There are some ways applying to winamp.
But it's not so useful if you have files other than mp3 and ogg.

I have no idea what's the matter with replaygain.
Already included in Whislist, I'm not sure it'll be implemented in some day.
