Blue Man

Ok, I don't know why I'm even starting this, because I have no time right now. But I recently saw a performance of Blue Man Group's The Complex tour, and I must say it kicked some serious ass. Then I thought it would make a cool skin, and this is what I have so far. Color scheme based off the advertisments and website graphics. This is just a base image -- the finished skin wil have a lot of PVC piping, wires, black tubes, etc. Any comments welcome

It's very simple and overly untextured at the moment, of course, but it's a great setup - with the whole skin being one single room and all . You have all of your songs in one big playlist. Weird

Sow a thought, reap an action; sow an action, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny.

really too early to say anything....

the playlist screws up the whole inside a room thing...just keep the main and EQ like that....leave the pl out of it.

and yeah....i hate big playlists too, especially since winamp scrolls way too fast.

I just find it weird that someone would want to listen to Bjork, Black Eyed Peas, Black Sabbath, and whatever else is on there in one sitting. Not saying there's anything wrong with it, just saying I find it weird I usually listen to one type of music at a time - I either suit it to the mood I'm in, or I decide what sort of mood I want to be in, and select the music from there. Music isn't just for enjoyment...if you know how to use it properly, it's a damn good tool for your brain. Like drugs, but lasts longer and without a come-down.

But yeah, my mouse scroller is set to pretty fast so that I can scroll webpages fast, but as a result, when I scroll the playlist, it totally jumps certain songs unless the playlist is stretched vertically.

Sow a thought, reap an action; sow an action, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny.

thats true, i usually make sure to listen to the same few songs when im in photoshop making a specific skin or drawing......music is the heaviest influence possible(aside from directly looking at another piece of art.)

I saw blue man group! That rules! I hope the skin has some REALLY quality animations and stuff, but the layout so far is nice. This skin would probably be better if it looked more photographic than symbolic, but I don't know how you'd go about doing that. Good luck though!

My playlist currently has 1194 songs on it. I like variety while I'm listening. I just put it on shuffle and let it take me where it wants. It's like a journey every time I use the computer.
And if I ever want to listen to something specific, it's relatively easy to get to, then I don't have to go through the hassle of loading a new list when I want something else.
Trying it find specific songs is a pain sometimes, but almost all of my playlist is ripped CD's, so there's large blocks of a certain artist, which makes music much easier to find.

The skin looks promising. It's a bit early to say anything if there's going to be as much stuff in it as you say, so I'll just sit tight.

Hey guys, thanks for the comments. Yep, I'm like FooMonkey, I just put it on shuffle and let it roll. If you think that music combination was weird, look at the update pic I agreed about the playlist, I was looking for a better layout, and I think this one is at least an improvment. This is an exercise in how to use layers for me, what with the wires and PVC and whatnot . . . whoops, gotta go

I just can't imagine letting a shuffle button decide what headspace I'm going to be in at any given moment. One of the reasons I usually want to kill anyone who makes me listen to the radio.

What is the Blue Man Group anyway? Is it a band or some kind of performance art? Either way, the skin looks interesting. I like how the orange cords plug into the vis, and I'd probably like to see more of them plug into more components - probably your intention anyway.

Its a bunch of people who wear blue makeup and dance around to techno music. And they have some set pieces/original instruments with neon lights on them they dance and hit and blow on. My opinion of the show personally was very loud and gimmicky. But that's me.

In any case, the shuffle button is the enemy. My playlists are all ordered in movements- Beethoven's 5th in an arbitrary 2,3,4,1 order? that's just wrong.

Now is the time for all good Americans to come to the aid of their Country

Blue Man Group made my fav song of this year (so far) (The Current (feat. Gavin Rossdale)). What I've heard of them so far quite rocks. Anyway, the skin's nice so far, and I can't wait for it to be finished.

Yes, The Current is a sweet song, probably my favorite of the concert. Partly because of the song, partly the crazy stuff they were doing in the background. If you've seen the theatrical show I would definitely recommend The Complex concert. It's hard to describe Blue Man Group, and I don't want to give away the show, but basically there are three guys in blue face paint who don't talk, and they do all sorts of weird stuff. Play music on PVC pipes, take people out of the audience and screw with them, catch marshmallows in their mouths, etc. That's the stage show. Currently they have a "rock" concert tour called The Complex. I would say it's probably the coolest show I've been to. I would describe it as a visual orgy with comedy, and great (although somewhat industrial) music. I also loved it because I'm a percussionist and they had like 5 or 6 drummers playing at the same time, not including the Blue Men. Ok, that explaination was too long. Anyway here's a skin update

Oh yeah, and they use a lot of red dot-matrix scrolling signs, which is why there are a lot in my skin. BTW, may be a dumb question, but what did those comments have to do with Breedart?

Just because I use shuffle most of the time doesn't mean I use it all of the time. Of course, if I was going to listen to a symphony, I'd listen to it in order. I'm currently enjoying Robert W. Smith's musical interpretation of The Divine comedy... In order.

Believe me, I'd become a very hated person here quickly if I gave a loud opinion about every skin that came across here. Which is why i'm mostly silent. Although I do have an opinion. You know, if you don't have something nice to say...

Or as Mae West said, "If you don't have something nice to say, come sit by me"

yeah, I darkened the pipes up a little, I keep forgetting that I use very low contrast on my monitor. Lol, oh yeah, I forgot to take that into account when I made "Experimetal." And StillWater (then db) kept telling me that the cyan was too annoying. Then a little while ago I was looking at the skin and realized that my contrast was really low. So After I adjusted it I saw that SW was right Whoopsies. Anyway I need opinions about the stacks, which are in development. They are supposed to be drums with some paint on the head. It's testing my PSP skills, which I am still very new at. I added a bunch of dropshadows though and they seemed to help the depth. Let me know what you think

it looks like there may be too much perspective on the text-area pipe. It seems to diapear too quickly.

It's coming along nicely. Good show, old chap!

Good suggestion Luigi, I widened pipe with attempted depth. I've just included some different ideas in this pic. I think I'm going to use the paint splash for the stacks. I'm not sure about the silhouette for cbuttons yet, but I'll see what people think.

For the PL stacks you could have a blue guy pop up behind the drum, and the paint splatter could be part of the animation, you know what I mean?

Simon, those cbuttons are great, but in the interest of keeping my skin appropriate for younger Winamp users, I will have to pass Yeah I was originally going to use those little guys as the cbuttons, but after I made them I realized that they work much better as cursors. They were a little too big for the cbutton area of the skin. I will try that idea for the stacks, although no guarantee it will work

Thumbs up for anyone who can name the creature in my avatar (not you Luigi, too easy )
