Registrar / Hosting

I need hosting/domain registration suggestions.

I was originally thinking godaddy for the domain, but they seem a little expensive.

I thought about 1&1 for a while, too but I've read a lot of terrible reviews. I did very much like that they gave me ssh access though.

Anyone know of good hosting/registration?

For domains, I use Yahoo. They have cheap prices for new time members.

I'm also looking for some hosting after my last host screwed me by "accidentally" deleting all the files on my web server when I missed a month's payment due to my recent PayPal issue (hence the broken signature). The worst part about it is that I know the hosting company's owner personally. Prick.

Anyhow, I'm looking for at least 500MB of storage, a decent amount of bandwidth; also support for PHP, SSI, FTP, MySQL.

Also, with my old host I had a nice little feature where sending an email to <insert anything here>@psythik.com would forward it to the same inbox. Something like that would be nice. So would cPanel.

I'm looking to pay no more than $5/mo, with no catches, such as advertising on my site, having to pay yearly, etc.

This is a sig of some nature.

I sort of want to find a host with Ruby on Rails. I've heard some really good things about it. Although, I'm only now truly learning PHP.

This might be what you're looking for k_rock when it comes to RoR:

http://www.hostmonster.com/hosting-features.htm

However, there's a $30 activation fee unless you purchase a year or more. I was interested until I read about the fee... I'm gonna keep looking and let you know when I find something.

Here's some more to consider that have RoR:

http://www.jaguarpc.com/services/hosting/
http://www.**************/shared.shtml (sounds the most promising so far, although double my asking price)

I think I'm gonna go ahead and give hostgator a try; I've heard nothing but positive reviews about them so far.

/I found a site with coupon codes to get your first month for only a penny. I'm defiantly signing up now:

My host: http://www.lunarpages.com/basic-hosting/

I've been with them for a couple of years now and the service has been pretty good.

My domain's through registerfly, and while i haven't had any issues with them personally, i have heard a few horror stories. The same goes for godaddy (see http://nodaddy.com ).

I sat down and started coding today. I have got to get my thoughts together. I have tons to say on this subject and it's not organized at all.

I wanted to finally have a website up and running within 24 hours, so I decided to take the easy way out and go with a site based on PHP-Nuke. I'd appreciate any comments on the site design so far (read the latest news article and vote on the poll in the article) although I'm far from finished.

Of course, to visit my site, just click on the .

Looks ok so far, although the poll block appears to be empty.

I hate PHP-Nuke. I wouldn't even wish that on my worse enemy.

I use Joomla now days. ITs a slightly higher learning curve but it works well.

Yeah, I'm too lazy to add one right now.

I was originally considering Joomla, however, I just wanted something that worked without much effort, so I chose PHP-Nuke, despite the problems I've had with it in the past. Whether or not I stay with the format depends on how well it suits my needs in the future.
