another new gig

My new gig, yet another start-up, number 4 (two of the first three were successful and made lots of money for people who weren't me ). But a new day emerges. I'm at doubleTwist.com an application that takes care of syncing your media -- music, vids, photos to a wiiiiiiide array of mobile devices in a simple drag and drop (on our Mac version) and via tabbed syncing of folders on Win.

Mac is out now, Win version releases in a couple of weeks.

It's pretty cool, not quite the cache of this place or a youtube but it fills a need and does it pretty well. oh,you can also after syncing media send it via the application to anyone on your friends list. This is a kinda nice way to move large amounts of files around without messing with an FTP server or zipping things up. One final cool thing. In our Mac version you can drag Youtube video URL's to your device or media library and have the video downloaded immediately. then of course send it to a pal or another of your boxes or phones or whatever.

Check it out if you have time. I'm the community manager and you can find me here pretty much 24/7

hey, we launched today. doubleTwist.com, an app that syncs your music, vids and photos to your mobile devices. phones, psp's media players, etc...

It's the brainchild of Jon Lech Johansen the guy who cracked DVD encryption a few years back.

here's a review on Crackberry.com that has some swank screenshots (my dog lolagirl made the cut for one of them)

It's a freebie app of course and works pretty dang okay for how few engineers we have squeezed into the SF office. give it a whirl if you like and let me know if you run into any speed bumps. I'm the el Presidente for life over at the doubleTwist community forums so come on by and say howdy. you've always got time for one more community in your life, right? doubletwist = http://doubletwist.com crackberry review = http://forums.crackberry.com/showthr...07#post2212507

Not spam, just a new launch of some freeware I've been working with.

I was just kidding with the spam accusation, hence the green stick-tongue-out smiley thing.

Something tells me you didn't register several years and over a thousand posts ago just to post a link to your project today.

The auto-conversion looks like it would save loads of time and hassle.

I'm on my iPhone on the train -- can't see images. Heh. I was actually the third registered user on this community back in the day. The first when we moved from the original software to vbulletin.

Ted, watadoo used to run this place. I would say he was the admin, but that term doesn't do justice to what this man meant to us kids back in the day. "Spam"... HA!

Looks good, mister BT; alas I don't use any 'devices' so it's not much use to me!

actually I'm jealous. My life is mutiple cell phones, ipod, psp, 3 computers at home 4 at work. I'm really just a misplaced hippie who wants to sit in the woods with a gin and tonic.

@ jaz - I understand everything you're saying, which is why the joke carries such irony. Perhaps it wasn't received the way I originally intended, and for that I'm sorry.

I used to use a Palm, but it died in a clothes washer.

My wife and I have a Motorola Razr phone that came with our Alltel plan, but we don't use it for anything other than making calls and storing phone numbers. I haven't had any portable gaming systems other than laptop computers (never even parted with the money to buy a Nintendo Game Boy back in the day).

If I did have such devices, I would probably find the application to be a life-saver though.

If you ever make it to that spot in the woods, let me know; I'll even supply a variety of high quality gin if you just bring the tonic and lime.

heh. no worries. Like i said, I was on BART reading the post on my iPwn standing next to some smelly businessman that reeked of stale peanut butter. My fault entirely for not interpreting your post correctly.

The app is made for the 75 percent of people I see on the train every day with phone and iPods glued to their heads listening to music and trying to pretend they're in Tonga and trying not to breathe in the peanut butter fumes. It's made for my 13 year old son who is constantly watching videos on his blackberry and texting his friends about them. That may not be you, it may not even be me for the most part. I am a hired gun.

Most of my students would benefit from it. They are always watching music videos when waiting for school to start or after school is over.

I have the two computers at home, a 2nd-gen Ipod Nano (audio only) which is semi-permanently plugged into my car stereo, and a basic mobile phone.

So I'm basically Xerxes, just not as cool.

Doubletwist is a pretty cool little toy. The only thing I have to use it with is a PSP... works good.

yeah, the psp is what i use for my video entertainment/avoiding working pleasure too. On the mac version we have a feature where you can drag a YouTube URL into dT and it downloads the video onto your library. not just bookmarking the URL but downloading the actual video. and Google can't block it. The same feature is coming to the windows version next week.

Just released a wheelbarrow of new features with doubleTwist version 2.1. Download a Youtube video to you box by dragging and dropping the clip's URL to doubleTwist library, single file drag and drop from library to phone or device, reverse sync from phone to computer. Good stuff representing a very solid 6 week sprint.
