Winamp5.03 Updated?

Is this legit?

http://www.osnn.net/comments.php?shownews=10529

What's New in WinAmp 5.03 Final Updated:
- Added eMusic trial offer to installer. uninstaller included in Program Files\Winamp\eMusic
- Improvements in MP3 encoder configuration (added --alt-preset standard, etc...)
- Winamp modern skin now uses a 3 state repeat button: no repeat/repeat all/repeat track
- Added appplication desktop toolbars capabilities for layouts, add appbar="left|top|right|bottom" to use them
- Upped maki binary version, improved stack protection
- Current skin version number is 1.2 (this should not change for a long while now, and of course we continue to support 0.8 to 1.1)
- Very limited maki debugger (for now you can bring it up with invokeDebugger(); in a script then use 'x' to continue and 'i' to trace into)
- Fixed obscure capture problem with dragging windows
- Fixed rectrgn being forced to 1 in xml xuiobject buttons that are originally imageless
- Fixed hilited state not on after clicking on buttons while the mouse stays in area
- Fixed scripted onEnterArea/onLeaveArea not being always correctly called while mouse button stays down
- Fixed getToken being passed NULL throwing guru
- Fixed clipping of painting within the background's region of a group rather than within the composed region (the one you can change with sysregion)
- Fixed image cache problem when using the same bitmap as a map and a button image parameter

Ok, I see it is a new build. Why do Nullsoft make updates but keep the same version number? Very confusing :s

I wouldn't download it...
Just use the Winamp installer here:
http://www.winamp.com/player/

Also, at these forums an update patch is available:

I did check it out and it does look legit, built on the 14th of June. I am a pro user, but don't get informed of these small changes, is there a list I can add myself to?

Looks like it is. The build date on the official (full) download from winamp.com is 6/23/03 and includes and option for "eMusic Icon and Offer for 50 Free MP3s!". Only real new thing would be the eMusic offer.

I type too slow :\

I don't think so...
Just visit winamp.com once in a while. The update patch is not really important, only when you experience problems it could solve some things.

New versions/update patches are announced in Winamp Discussion (this forum).

Why isn't that in my changelog?!
I have 5.03a installed...
It's exactly the same, only the first line says
"* made MP4 AAC the new default ripping encoder"
instead of
"* added eMusic trial offer to installer. uninstaller included in Program Files\Winamp\eMusic"

also, take a look at the changelog in this thread:

This one is 5.03c, not 5.03a. You'd have to download and install it.

I am wondering though if they added the updates from wa5update.exe.

Ok, I get it. I won't install 5.03c, since according to the changelog, that eMusic thing is the only addition (as far as i see)...
The update patch things are not listed, as far as i see, but maybe they included it anyhow...

Yeah, could be a new sponsor that asked for implementing it. I can understand that they didn't publish it more clear

the simple option is only to go with the winamp download from winamp.com and the update patch which is supported by nullsoft (since they let me do it). anything else then do so at your own risk

inthegray: when you say it might be suspicious, looks like the emusic link can be found in the changelog already:

you might've missed this part in my entry: "Other than on Winamp’s online version history, there hasn’t been any official announcement on the slightly updated version, or on a Winamp-eMusic connection."

eMusic Drops In With Free Music

since jon put up an article on the front page today, my piece won't be going up until mid-next week. winamp unlimited (for those of you who haven't been mauled with the link yet) should have an update tomorrow, and possibly comment on the emusic deal.
