winamp 5.33 won't install

Hi all,
New winamp user here.
I downloaded 5.33 and tried to install it but it freezes when it gets to "extract: out_wave.dll".
I had to kill it and tried the uninstall process, deleting the program files/winamp folder, app settings folder, etc... and tried to install again but no luck.
I tried downloading from cnet but that download freezes up also.
I'm using winxp pro and could really use some advice.
Thank you.

Maybe this...
Using WinXP sp2 / IE6 corrupts downloads and other pertinent corrupted download info

[EDIT]

I just noticed that the links that JonnyMac has in that post for "direct" downloads of Winamp are outdated. These are the (current) direct links...
The (current) official public release of Winamp v5.33 or the Winamp v5.34 Beta Preview.

Err, I am not the one with the outdated links…
Next time use this one.
Once 5.34 is in its final release, that post will be updated accordingly.

Thanks guys.
I don't use IE so that's not the problem. I tried your link to 5.33 but that one freezes on install too.
I'm now downloading the beta to see if that works.
I'll let you know what happens.

No luck, they both freeze when it tries to extract out_wave.dll
I guess I'll have to give up on winamp

When you uninstalled Winamp, was that full uninstall > reinstall (AKA clean install) as suggested here?

Are you trying to install on a limited/user or administrator account?

I followed the uninstall > reinstall (aka clean install) instructions, as far as it applied. I had the proper folders/files to delete and such but there was no winamp in the Add/Remove Programs list to uninstall, I guess it just didn't that far.
I'm using administrator account.

If you want to give Winamp a go, please provide system specs. Maybe one of us can see what is going on.

I do want to give it a try, but I think it's out of my hands at the moment. I hope someone here is smarter than me
Here's my specs:

motherboard: MSI KM2M combo
cpu: Athlon XP 2400+
RAM: 1 gig
onboard sound: Direct sound ready AC97 digital audio controller.(Pulled that from MSI website)
video: nvidia geforce fx 5200
os: WinXP sp2

Winamp version: 5.33 and 5.34 beta, tried full and bundle
Separate or shared: I tried both ways
No winamp plugins installed
No window error messages, just freezes during install.

A HijackThis log would be the most helpful. Download links for HjT and instructions for posting a log are in the system specs link. As we volunteer our time to provide support, it may take awhile before someone can fully evaluate the log and make the proper recommendations. However, it should not be more that a day.

Ok, here ya go.
I really appreciate any help you guys could provide.
I've been using another player for years(not windows media player) but it hasn't been updated in a very long time and I just need a change.
I see so many references to winamp that I really wanted to try it out.
Again, thank you for your time.

I can't find any "red flags" what would easily explain what is causing the issue. However, I couple things...

Try disabling the Microsoft Debug Manager (mdm.exe). I have never heard of MDM causing install issues, it and Winamp sometimes don't get along very well.

Control Panel > Internet Options > Advanced tab
Uncheck "Disable Script Debugging (Internet Explorer)"
Uncheck "Disable Script Debugging (Other)"
Also, there have been some reports anti-virus software interfering with the Winamp install. You might want to try putting the Winamp installer or Winamp directory in the Yahoo Antivirus ignore/exclusion list (if there is one).

Disabling the 2 internet options worked, I couldn't find anything in the anivirus to ignore the installer.
Works like a charm now.
