Will the next build be 497 or will they just release 3.1?

It seem logical to me at this point in the game it would be a good idea to insted of realesing build 497 to just release the nes buil as a 3.1 beata if you will. You see this could also explain the length of time since the last relaese and the almost zero documanetation on the next build. So guys what will it be 3.1 or #497 or #500?

Neither, I'd wager. 497 has already been released internally, it's not release-quality (it's not bad, but there are annoying bugs). 498 will probably be released on NSDN, but it won't be 3.1. There's still more development to do before that.

Something just occured to me, Nullsoft isn't just making Winamp3, they're also making Wasabi.

It's not just simply making a game based on something like OpenGL or an application on top of MFC, they are literally making a cross-OS platform as well as Winamp3 itself and all of it's components and features within the components.

So, I think that with all of those tasks taken into consideration, they really aren't behind schedule; it is a huge undertaking and will eventually get enough optimizing and bug fixes to be the primary mp3 player of most of us.

lol i'm so stupid
just reminding people though...

a lot of people forget that bugs with the player itself aren't the only focus, but the entire wasabi platform... i duno, i was pretty "out of it" when i wrote that, had just spent two hours travelling by bus...

kind of funny to look back at what i wrote, all the proper punctuation, all to making an obvious point.

But it was a good read none the less

EDIT: Btw, just had to ask, what does it matter what name it's going to have?

It's been 9 months. I think such a leap is justified.

I'd call it 3.1, but I really don't know. As for AOL 9.0, it's only a rumour, but you never know (disclaimer: I have no idea, I'm just speculating).

It will be Winamp3 v1.1 or Winamp3 v1.01
but NOT Winamp v3.1
The product name is Winamp3
The current version of Winamp is v2.81, with v2.90 soon to be released.

The current public release of Winamp3 (build #488) is v1.0.0.488
so, say if build #500 becomes the next public release, there's a chance that it might be Winamp3 v1.0.0.500 or v1.0.1.500 or v1.1.0.500 etc

Heh, you have to get noticed by the right people - it's not something that you just apply for. Anyhow, I don't think there's room for any more internal testers at the moment.

>i said this months ago.. but AOL 9.0 is gonna be wasabi based,

I hope so. Maybe then the bullshit AOL installs all over your damn hard drive will be gone. I'm tired of AOL having to set up multiple folders OUTSIDE of its root installation. AOL is one bitch of a program to completely uninstall and its nearly impossible to trim its fat without crippling it. I think AOL deserves the "Bloatware Of The Decade" award for the 90's and a nomination for the 00's. If there is one piece of software that has the most worthless shit packed into it, it would be AOL. You'd think a company that big wouldn't need to stoop so low as to puts a ton of ads on your desktop when you install. Those ads even show up in the registry.

I think Nullsoft should try hard not to become associated with the AOL curse. Integrated Winamp in AOL is the same thing as putting lipstick on a pig. As the ever-popular saying goes: you can't polish a turd.

Sorry for ranting, but sometimes I can't help myself.

There you have your response.
No need to keep asking when the next public release will be.

I honestly didn't think Wa3.1/Wa3.01/Wa3 1.1/Wa3 1.01/WaXP/Wa6/Wa(tever) would be released anytime soon..
There's just waaaay too many loose ends, especially in the skinning/scripting area, aswell as features from Wa2 waiting to be implemented in Wa3.

If the next public will be what Nullsoft INTENDED the 3.0 final to be (which I think), then all of the above mentioned stuff will be implemented and since none of it is, ofcourse it will take time.

excuse me for saying, but this really sounds stupid. how can poor newbies ever understand these kind of things. i've the impression that the majors here even don't know whats exactly gonna happen. if the next one is just called v3.1 i'll know what file to download. the whole point is that everybody is able to understand it right?

LOL!!! I can't BELIEVE the responses in this thread!

It's really easy. The name of one product is Winamp3 and the name of the other is Winamp. Two entirely seperate applications, developed and CONTINUING to be developed independently of each other.

Let me make it even easier...

Let's call Winamp3 Boogaba3 instead.
Let's call Winamp Yesiree.

OK. Yesiree is an application. As it develops, it becomes Yesiree v.10, Yesiree v.10b, Yesiree v.10c, etc, eventually arriving at the release of Yesiree v2.81

Now Boogaba3 (another entirely DIFFERENT application) is in development. At first it's Boogaba3 v.10, then Boogaba3 v.10b, then Boogaba3 v.10c, then Boogaba3 v.10d, and who knows? After it's around as long as Yesiree has been, it may eventually be called Boogaba3 v2.81

The POINT is nobody would care PROVIDING they have a complete and total understanding that the 2 are completely seperate applications.

Now, go back in this post and substitute anywhere I typed Yesiree with Winamp and anywhere I typed Boogaba3 with Winamp3.

What is throwing people off is the fact that the 2 entirely SEPERATE applications happen to begin with the letters W-i-n-a-m-p

NOW do you see?

Don't email or PM me concerning Winamp. Instead, either start a NEW TOPIC or post a REPLY in the appropriate thread in these forums. This will also benefit others who may have a similar question or problem. But before posting, please first Search the forums and read all FAQs and all Sticky threads.

Heheh, this all sound clear to me.

But tell me one thing honestly: do you really think WinAmp3 would have been called WinAmp3 if the lastest WinAmp version would have been v0.98 or v1.81 instead of v2.81? If it is supposed to be called a completely different product (because rewritten from core), why not call it something like WinAmp Max to avoid confusion?

I agree with kemalafu that v3.1 would be much clearer. We will still believe it's a brand new and different product!!!
