Why yall given that guy a hard time

Yesterday there was a post in here about a FREE SHOUTCAST HOST

and you guys all got all stinky I guess like you like to do and got him in trouble for spamming i guess.

Since when did giving something away become spamming?

Somebody could come in here trying to hand out a million dollars to the first lucky bastard that stuck his hands out and you vultures would chase him away.

Pathetic.

It seems that you do have your opinion about an issue, but it also seems you got no clue on the FORUM RULES

Forum guidelines ( top sticky by CraigF)

No ads. This is pretty self-explanatory. The Forums are not a place to advertise your products, so any post that is deemed to be an ad will be deleted, or edited to remove the advertisement. Ads are not allowed anywhere in the forums.

and somewhere we did have a line saying

offering of services free or not is not allowed here.

But ask yourself one question

why does somebody who has dnas ready Need a password from you ??

he's the one who should provide you with a password!!

LOl .....Turns out hes just some 16 year old kid from the OC who has friends that own a server connected directly to an 0c-192 backbone . He is just fooling around with it and had tons of spare bandwidth and being an "altruistic" human being he thought he would be nice and come in here and offer some poor sap a free ride just to be nice.

So call it what you want. Your loss not mine.

Thanks for stifling altrusictic actions. You make baby jesus cry.

After this I've reached my post quota for the month...
but um. Spam is spam is spam is spam, I don't care if it's a free pony that they're giving away or if it's someone trying to scam me out of $1000 for a laptop.

Please don't PM me for technical support. Other users can't search through PM's so it does the other users no good.

Yeah that's true. But I have heard stories perhaps myths about some people out there just by happenstance coming accross really good deals because of somebody they know.

One can only hope but it is true that bandwidth is more precious than gold

Here's what's funny. No kid has a server with a OC-192 connection. It's a financial impossibility unless it's Bill Gate's kid and I doubt he's hanging around here.

At best you're dealing with someone who has a dedicated box with either a 10Mbps or 100Mbps NIC card. It's also likely on a shared connection since if it's not they would be paying well in excess of a thousand dollars a month to have a 1000 Mbps dedicated unshared internet connection.

So when it comes down to it this would either end up being a scam or someone with a box that has no idea what internet providers do to those who oversaturate their bandwidth and the server disappears in less than a week. I've been in this business a LONG time and it happens over and over again.

Thus the reason why they don't allow any advertising - it's too hard to tell who's legit and who isn't.

Yeah I asked him like a gazillion questions about it. It's no scam . Hes just some guy having fun. But still no reason to be a stinktard.

Im running his server through a test now . So far it's holding up under the pressure. LOL

Heres an exerpt i found from the website about the datacenter

Quote:
Redundant telecommunications paths into the local fiber optics infrastructure are buried around our Data Center. If a cable is cut or an earthquake disrupts fiber on one side of the building, a redundant path exists on the other side. Tier 1 connections to the Internet backbone are available through multiple Gigabyte Ethernet connections and multiple OC-3 lines with scalability to OC-48 and beyond. We are peered with AT&T, XO, Global Crossing, Level 3, and ELI. In addition, a private microwave communications network provides options for backup transmission. All these things ensure premium bandwidth and the highest availability possible for each of our clients.

hmmmmmmm sum that up for me.

I love how people jump to conclusions sooooo fast.
If you were to find a penny on the ground, would you think you would have to put a Nickel back in the place of the penny.
I am giving away hosting for free cause it takes like 1 minute to start the server, just edit and upload and then ./ it in. bandwidth isnt "unlimited" it is close to unlimited, Its 9000 TB. Also people were wondering what about money, well I am working on geting a donate button and website. Just like open source software or open software, hell its free office does that mean its a scam NO. Same here you can donate and that would be greatly apprechated.
and if you are still doubtfull
even though i dont have to prove nothing to you as i dont gain anything from this
here is the link to my station
http://208.131.129.180:8111/
ohh before you throw out that link above as advertiseing for my station IT IS RELAVENT TO THIS TOPIC AS ITS THE SERVER IN QUESTION

Hey Sand. You might have to put that link to your stream in your signature. For one thing its blocked. But it seems that putting it in your sig is ok around here. I like the donation idea but instead of giving away 500 slot servers to people it might be better to start them off with say a 50 slot server for free and then if they make donations you can up their slots.

Just an idea.

If it's legit then have them contact me. I can fil a 500 slot server without blinking an eye and if they are truly as stable as they say then bring it on. We will know for sure.

This way if they really are going to give away 500 slot servers we can find out once and for all if they can support it for any length of time. I also have a well built 24/7 monitoring and logging system that can show me what's going on.

Not trying to be hard on anyone here but as I always say put your money where your mouth is. If they're legit there should be no issue at all in doing something like this on a peak daytime period.

actually, I don;t honestly think it can be done.

I also don't honestly think anyone is going to give a 9000 TB transfer cap.

I assumed the next logical thing. Dude got confused for GB.

Guys the reason why offering up free bandwidth on the boards is not allowed is because begging for bandwidth is not allowed. Also many times these posts come up there is nothing behind them that is solid for any length of time or they turn into a promotion for some new stream hosting entity. It has been done many times and we make no assumptions about the posters true intentions we are merely reacting on experience.

So? Offering free slots to jumpstart their business is OK in my book

but..

My question to Sandspeed is:
What licensing do you have for webcasting copyrighted audio works?

If you don't have any you better get covered before they spot you.

Your domain, you are liable.

Just put it in your sig and flag it as TEST or something like that. That only makes it look like you're testing a new host as opposed to spamming.

Aside from that, Tucker's right (Hey there Tucker....What's new? ). You aren't spamming if you're posting something that's RELEVANT to what this whole board (And its many forums) is all about.

Just my opinion

What your brain is "engaging" in now is considered flaming. If I were perhaps as uptight as "some" I might feel compelled to report it. However that's not how I roll.
