And I'll be the first to ask... Where is the download link?
Unless of course, it's just a preview and that's it.

Well it seems you can't upload a 35 mb skin here as i tried last night. I need to find hosts for it.

Slob: It's animated only not as much as the WMP version. Winamp didn't like a 588-frame intro animation.

In regards to the size, hard drives and storage is so cheap nowadays, the size shouldn't matter.

No, and it's highly unverylikely that the database will be changed to accomodate something that big, the recent stargate skin at 6mb was pushing it and I had to beg and scrape to get that done

Regards size etc, yah, storage space is plentiful and cheap, I don't think that's the case, a lot of people would question an application skin that's 6 times bigger than the application it's running on , a lot of people don't really care for huge dazzling animations, they get old really quickly.

Look at it this way, when you download a porn flick off the net, it's ok to watch and beat your man stick off to a couple of times, but you don't wanna watch the same old same old every time you wanna jerk off

Same with skins, wow, the animations take your breath away and you think 'gee that's really slick', next time around you just wanna get down the business of playing your music and skip the film show......

Personally, if the skin is bigger than 5kb it's a waste of time for me, my tray icons and hotkeys get me to where I wanna go everytime

We all ready cut the animations down considerably. I'm sure Pete did what he could for size reduction, it's not like he's a noob ;-)

Well, there's that other thing as well, if you cut down the WiMP version to arrive where you are now, WiMP users are used to using bloaty app's anyhow, so probably wouldn't have complained if you'd made a 3.5gb sized skin.

Llama lovers like it lean and mean

Can't Alienware host the file on their webspace?

I think the problem with the intro animation in the winamp version is that it has alpha-blended edges which heavily increase the filesize, compared to the wmp version which uses animated gifs.

well Jones, call it what you want "bloated", but WMP handles the 588-frame animation like a champ. We have a kill-switch built into the WMP version that cuts the animation down to a short version.

This was built with being installed on Alienware PCs in mind. So size was never an issue for us. If people want a lean and mean skin there are plenty of ones here that fit the bill, if they want something a little more unique then they can grab this one. It's being offered free to those who want it.

I'm going to host the file on our servers thru the weekend so those who want it can grab it. I'll delete off there monday morning. Feel free to distribute it in a unmodified form. Please do not alter the skin in any way. Also it's a slow loader as Winamp loads the animation. Don't forget to turn on the alpha setting. Enjoy the skin.

Nice graphics and animations

it took about a minute to load though, far too long in my opinion.. I agree with Jones, its waaay too bloated.

very nice, took 12 seconds to load here

if there was a need to reduce the size
i reckon about 1/3 of frames could have been cut from the start up animation without too much quality loss
last 15% startup frames could have been removed and added to another smaller animated strip(s) for the smaller moving parts, which could help optimise the startup

thers no kill switch or attrib to turn off startup animation
colour themes would have been cool also to compliment the awsome alienware pcs colour variations, altho not really compatible due to the animations
where's the seek bar?

awsome looking skin tho!

Seek bar is on the meta data module which can be found above the time display. You'll see the icon there.

Animations can only be kill-switched in WMP unfortunately.

Wow, this is great, even better then the WMP version. No more jaggies must be the biggest plus on this! To bad loading it takes so long, but everything comes with a prize

Pretty good, and yes it uses a bit of resources. Some of the snap points across it are borked. Some of the ML elements aren't skinned but no biggie. My only big complaint is no colour themes. Even if it changed the entire skin the same colour it would be good.

Definately not my cup of tea, but it's cool to see such gigantic things from time to time. The graphics are seriously fantastic.

excellent first winamp skin! a bit big as everyone's already mentioned. I especially like the volume wheel and shutter animation clever font usage on the timer

Also, you can shave off over 1MB from the download size by using OptiPNG on the startup animation and other graphics. (no quality will be lost)

When the skin is 35MB, one measly MB does not matter anymore.

took about 30 seconds to load on my pc. AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+, 1 GB RAM.

Jeff, I found a bug, image is attached. what I did was doubleclicking a video file, winamp (with the invader skin selected previously) started, and the blinking antenna part was visible while the intro animation was running. see it for yourself:

download time: about 40 secs ( ADSL 2048 mbits)
skin load time: 20-30 secs ( intel centrino 1.7 Ghz)

There is no problem, there is just a cap on the upper limit for files submitted.

Thumbs down

I can not name one skin from The Skins Factory that I like.

They are bloated, ugly and unpractical. And thats a shame because the graphics are stunning most of the time.

I mean, look at that shade mode. Its way to big! You can not put that at the top of your browser. Sometimes I think these people don't use the skins they create. Ugh!

yep, animations or not, it's just not very usable, 2/3 of the interface is just for bling bling (though the bling bling parts do a pretty good job)

I'll have to talk to R. Peter Clark about that video bug. The image you're showing is Invader in the middle of it's animation sequence right?

Hawk: Considering our skins are free to the public, you don't have a whole lot of room to bitch/rant/spew. Don't like it that's great but there's no reason to be a troll especially when our artists worked their asses off on this skin.

From William Bart (graphics) to R. Peter Clark (code), they both did a great job. Yeh we get paid but not nearly enough to cover the hours that went into the making of this. Media player skins are our lowest paying projects but we still do them because we love to.

And which is it Hawk? Are our skins ugly or stunning? Because you said both of those things back to back. Do you comment just to get attention?

I'm in awe of all the cool skins skinsfactory puts out, theyr pieces of cool art, practical or not they look the dbs
i would have perhaps added/redesigned some parts from the conversion so that the winamp version had some more of the things winamp does, but overall this is pretty cool stuff

its a shame that we have to put animations into static frames and any media engine doesnt have animation sequences that we could move stuff around in 3d, altho some tasty stuff can be done with some 2d movement

is there going to be an updated version at some point, regarding any bugfixes, additions?

Yeah that's way too long for load time. Are you using an older computer?

pentium 4 with 512RAM. windows XP Home. its not top-of-the-line but its not on the bottom either.

i thought my skins were slow at loading already but i see this and realized, wow it could go slower.

i guess winamp has not been designed to handle that much animations.

downloading now. can't it be hosted at devart?

/edit
seems nifty. gfx, as usual per TSF amazing. nifty animations and other options (eq fade, folding up options). Load times, etc, who cares, we all know its TSF, and that its gonna be big cause its gonna have a lot of bells and whistles. They don't make the skins to be tiny and out of sight. They are supposed to be big and in your face, that's why companies have them design them, so their brand gets noticed.

Anyways

Great skin, not for everyday use, as stated, but it does what it does, and it does it well.
