How to import only .mp3 file types

Hi. Over the years I have changed my music files to every file type imaginable for playing on different devices. I want to fill my WinAmp media database with only .mp3 files to avoid duplicates. Is there any way I can specify the file type it imports from a given location (my network attached storage)? Many thanks in advance.

in prefs > general prefs > file types you can associate which file types are winamps. i don't know though if that will stop them from being imported into the DB.

however, you could create a smartview using *.mp3 as a filter, so only mp3's are displayed. i think thats the better route anyway, put everything in the DB, and then filter the results for play.

EDIT: you could also do an OS search of all your *.mp3 and then move them to their own directory that you point winamp at. but that might be messy depending on your existing folder structure.

Aother option that may be useful to you :

Right click on the column headers in the track view and customize
Add the 'Extension' column to your view.
You can then sort by extension, and remove the files you don't want. (make sure you have all files selected in the Artist pane first )

Main drawback here is that rescanning your watch folders will add them back in again.

As MrS suggests the only real solution is to arrange the files on disc, rather than in the ML.

-OR-

You could create a ML view just for MP3 files...
1. in the ML right click on Local Media > select 'Add Smart View...'
2. from the 'Choose a Preset:' drop-down box select 'Audio'
3. click the plus button underneath the first "formula" boxes, that will bring up a 2nd row of "formula" boxes
4. make sure and is selected between the two rows of "formula" boxes
5. in the 2nd row, first column select 'Filename' > 2nd column select 'Ends with' > in the third column type MP3.
6. At the bottom of the 'New Smart View' box, give it a new name of your choice (example MP3 Audio) > Press the OK button.
If the new view does not automatically fill/populate after you create it, click on another view then click back to your new one. The library will still be capable of importing other file types. In this suggestion, the idea was to make a category for just MP3s.
