I found this a week or so ago.
Very interesting reading concerning differences in bit rates for encoding MP3's and CD quality. http://www.r3mix.net/ Then click the analysis button. To me a good compromise between quality and size is 128kbit/s, 44.1Hz Stereo. Just remember the higher the bitrate the larger the file size. Some may disagree, so it's a matter of preference. I use ogg, and just let the encoder do its stuff without specifying a bitrate. It averages around 130, and this seems reasonable to me.
In the past (when I mostly used mp3) I always tried to keep my mp3s at 192 or higher since I did notice a drop in quality below this. Very few complaints with ogg though, maybe only that not enough people are using it! As for file size, I'm getting just over 1MB per minute with ogg. Regards, QuantumMonkey |

If you chose MP3 as your format to be, then I would recommend to use the hilarious LAME MP3 encoder.
Unfortunately, LAME has got plenty of commandline options and parameters, so I would highly recommend you to surf r3mix.net, as already pointed out to ![]() LAME's VBR engine is very efficient, by the way. I think you should also surf the r3mix.net forums to find your answer ![]() Peace. |
