That, like whether Pluto is a planet, is a matter of definition. If we stopped Pluto being a planet, we'd need to accept that three other bodies circling the sun are also planets. As for the 2+2=5 thing, it works if you redefine "5" to be the value currently held by the glyph "4".

I'd have no problem with Pluto and objects of similar size and distance from the sun being classified as Large Kuiper Belt Objects (LKBO's), as opposed to smaller, regular sized KBO's. I think the classification for LKBO's, asside from the distance, would be weather or not the object has sufficient gravity to be shaped into a sperical object. Could also call them Plutons. Would be fitting, I think.

When we start worshipping Ra, I might accept that as a useful argument. Until then, our understanding of astronomy is such that if we want "planet" to be a meaningful scientific term, we have to classify it. Either Pluto is not a planet, or our Solar System has 12 (is it?) planets. Cannot have it both ways.
