Yeah, actually I saw that and fixed it for the version up on my site... Sorry, should have said something here.
Evil Pumpkin, sounds like you need to adjust the parameters you pass standardframe.maki in your standardframe.xml file. Just tweak those until your Components fit inside the frame. As for the changing the Languages color in the Preferences, you need to override the default colors. Look in winamp3/Wacs/xml/winamp/prefs. The colors of items in Preferences can all be changed by redefining those groups.

Not sure who said you can't do it, but they were wrong. With this, you should be able to at least get *close*. Here's a little-used addon I downloaded a while ago. I've never used it personally, but you can add a #include line to have it complie with the rest of your script, and then figure it out. It lets you read the vis and get the rates of different bands. Again, I've not tested this, but winamp's got it on their download lists, so it should work.

Yeah, thats Russ's getVisdata lib, I did a small test skin for making a layer spectrum vis on page 6 on this thread you can have a look at it. The first 3 bands have the most bass in them.

That script requires that Russ's vis component be installed. Without it, your skin will just crash. There's no simple way to distribute a component with a skin so it doesn't really seem feasable to use that script. As far as I know, there's no other way to detect bass levels. I think you're out of luck.

/me think's Nullsoft will have to make up a way to incorporate a scriptobject in a skin, otherwise scriptobjects are pretty much useless..

I think that someone should write a simple tutorial for how to use ScriptObject.wac's in skins without having to package the wac with the skin.
Currently, there's only ONE skin using a wac (mc's Techenify I think, which downloads the wac on demand), except the still unreleased Sakura and my unreleased version of the Wa2-Wa3 Template.
ScriptObjects can be really great to use, but all we hear is "no, we cannot package it with the skin because then we cannot submit the skin on winamp.com", well with a little coding, YOU DON'T HAVE TO include the wac with the skin, and with some imagination, you can have two modes in the skin, with or without wac.

Anyone up for the job?

What possibilities are there for alternate visualisations? I was thinking of somehitn along the lines of:


I have the math to convert a range to degrees, no complete script though.

Two questions:
1 would such a classic meter be at all possible to code?
2 would it then be a 'custom component' or could it replace (for instance) the oscilliscope?

1. yes it should be possible to code that.
2. you can't replace only the oscilliscope, but you can have both the normal vis and your "custom vis" at the same place and then use some maki magic to block the oscilliscope from beeing used and instead turn your vis on...

Yes, but not many people are going to bother to download a wac, install it etc.

if the skin is designed so that the user gets a message the first time runing the skin, if the wac isnt installed, about downloading the wac, and by a click of a button, the download automatically starts, I do think that alot of people would download it..

ScriptObjects are MEANT to be used, I say go for it..

they can be anything..
think of them as extensions of std.mi, ie: they can add Maki functionality that isn't there normally..
Like more advanced vis-options, playlist manipulation, etc...

They require a wac, and unfortunately there's no way to package the wac with the skin and still be able to upload the skin to winamp.com. But it is possible to use the wac as separate download, ie: you check if the wac is installed, in maki, on startup and if it's not, display a messagebox which can direct you to the download..
If it is installed, use it..

How do you mean? Changing layouts can be done in XML, and if thats not fancy enough frisbeemonkey made a script that puts all the layouts in order and uses up/down buttons on the layout to change the layout. Plus the buttons can be right clicked to produce a menu list of all the layouts so you can pick one.

So if that doesn't help you, can you please get specific? (and not just "like invecta", I follow the thread and that still doesn't help make any sense).

me got confused with this and still am but ill take ur word for it. i saw this b4 but went by cause i thought it was just a menu

It uses two buttons, one goes to the next layout, one goes to the previous layout, and right clicking on ether brings up a menu with all the layouts in it.

I haven't actually looked at the script, frisbee said thats how it worked in the stick collab thread.

yeah iPlay i did all u sid and i worked when i had forgotten to add the anim layer. all it did was show the "image not found doin sum weird stuff that looked like it but n e ways. so do i need to get this component to work?
