Staffing agencies that fill up newspaper websites' employment sections with hundreds of job listings that have NO USABLE INFORMATION. It's like...

"WORKERS NEEDED. FAX RESUME TO (555)800-9000"

WTF is that shit?

I've found that it's actually cheaper to go out and BUY A NEW PRINTER rather than to buy replacement ink cartridges in most cases. Wtf is that all about? Last year, my dad and I were looking for ink cartridges for his Lexmark printer (I forgot what model). We found the cartridges at Wal-Mart. Buying a complete set of color cartridges along with a black ink cartridge for that printer would've totalled over $80. About ten feet away on another shelf was a brand new Lexmark printer (it was even a newer model than my dad's) for $70!

You need to be sure you're getting full cartridges there Sarge, the ones in new machines are sometimes only half full. (Don't miss a trick do they).

Same in the case of lasers where the toner reservoir needs to be filled before use and this can take up to half the first cartridge, which will always remain unreachable. The cost of toner is always less than a new machine I've found, but not so with the drum, I have an Oki printer and a new drum is £105, a brand new machine costs around £80.

Yeah, about the ink - ujay is right, it's often half or less full in new printers, and sometimes the ink is dried out.

Today's annoyance: MS Word fucking up when I'm numbering things - when I get to double digits, the tabs/alignment fucks up and I have to highlight and reset all the tabs so things line up.

Altitude sucks sometimes.
You have to be very careful opening things that were packaged at low elevation as the pressure up here wreaks havoc. I just got a package today from Circuit City where they used those packing air bags. The box was ready to explode as the bags expanded up here but worse was the salad I had the other day. I opened a new bottle of chunky blue cheese dressing and it was orgasmic, blowing chunks everywhere like a champagne bottle uncorked. That shit was everywhere!

Tailgating won't get me to drive any faster, most especially when there's someone else in front of me, and it's only a one-lane per direction road...If you're that much in a rush to go somewhere, then I'm that much in a rush to get a settlement with a quick brake check...

Even worse, I hate tailgaters on the highway, or other multi-lane roads...Merge the fuck over if I ain't haulin' enough Speed Racer ass for ya, eh?!

I'm doing my tax return when I get to the part about a Federal Excise Tax Refund on your long distance phone service. You can take what they offer or actually look at your old phone bills to see what you will get. I decide on the latter.

When I get to my phone company's website to check things out, I get this message:

The system containing your bills for the Federal Excise Tax Refund is not available until Sunday at 6PM.

How convenient. For them.

It's 10AM, so now I'll have to wait 8 more hours. It's worth it, I suppose, but when I decide to do my taxes, I like to get it done all at once. Now, who knows if I'll go back to it later today.

I got an awful nosebleed when I went to Colorado. My uncle says that it was because of the altitude. It happened while I was at a Rockies game.

Actually, at altitude there's higher pressure as well as higher amounts of UV rays.

In any event, it bled a lot and sucked and I missed part of the game standing in the men's room next to the towel dispenser.

Speaking of towels, today I showered and forgot mine and had to dry off with a t-shirt.

No, I'm fairly confident that at higher altitude, the atmospheric pressure is lower. Higher amounts of UV rays, yes, because there is less air above you (effectively), but lower pressure for the same reason.

Yep, you're right. I had it backwards:

Quote:
In an area with very low air pressure, usually at a high altitude, bags
packed and sealed at a high pressure may explode. The pressure on the
inside pushes out. The pressure on the outside pushes in. If the bag is
not strong enough to resist the difference in pressure, it will pop open.
An inflated balloon moved from a very high pressure area to a very low
pressure area will grow in size without adding any more air. The low
pressure air squeezes the balloon less, allowing it to grow. As the air
inside the balloon expands, its pressure decreases. When pressures balance,
expansion stops.

With my new Cingular phone, the time is always 3 minutes slow. With Nextel, it was always accurate. In an age where numerous devices are updated via the atomic clock, it seems unthinkable that I should have to add 3 minutes to my cell phone as if it was a windup pocket watch from the 1920s.

Camera and Palm can't communicate with the computer without restarting in between. In other words, If I connect the camera and share pics with the tower, and then the Palm to share docs, the computer won't recognize the palm unless I restart the computer first.

QFT

[edit]What's really interesting about this is that the cell towers have to have *very* accurate time (GPS-based) to do anything useful... so it's not a technical problem of getting the time. Only one of setting it on the phone, if anything.[/edit]

I mentioned this at work today and was told I had to power off the phone overnight or at least an hour or so. Once I turned the phone back on, the time would reset.

While this works, the time will go back to being inaccurate within another hour or two.

According to the manual, I need to synchronize the time and date with the network. I'll try this procedure the next moment the time is wrong (probably by the time I finish this post) and see if it helps any.

Today's annoyance: myspacers (and others like them).. Learn how to resize images and use a bit of compression The file you get off your 44MP digital camera is to f*cking big in both dimemsions AND filesize. Learn how to crop and rotate as well.

Do. Not. Disable. Windows Update. That's phenomenally stupid.

If there's updates it only notifies you once, and will install them automatically when you shut down; do that. Don't turn it off. That's silliness.

Whenever I play a Final Fantasy (or any other rpg) game on my PS1, the disc speeds up incredibly fast 10 seconds before a random encounter. It's like water torture, except I'm dry.
