Of course, while you may not agree, the members of a church see their message as factual, so I'm not exactly sure where the analogy would break down.

It depends on knowledge about the person/deity Jesus. Just stating it without telling people (your opinion about) who this Jesus is or why he loves people is nonsense, as I tried to demonstrate above.
You're trying very hard to stretch what I've said into something I've never intended.
This is less than appreciated.

All these things you bring up about Jesus are much easier to understand once you know that he loves you, which was my point.

Maybe you should try harder to actually get across what you're trying to say?

I'm just trying to explain that your message isn't as simple as it may appear to be on first sight, or as you did claim.

Of course it's not simple as you go deeper into it, as with most messages (or really anything). I can make a piece of paper as complex as I want to. When you talk to children, most don't care about the underlying concepts that Jesus' love is based on. I've tried numerous times to explain to various children why he loves us but they either give me a blank, bored look or they just focus on something else. In general, they want the black and white version, which I guess is why the Bible is written in such a manner. Of course it can be complex and grey as you further explore it, but on the surface it's just Jesus loves all his little children which I think is an interesting and important part of Christianity.

Education also includes teaching critical thinking and questioning the things you're told (or at least it should, OK in that respect a lot of school teachers aren't better than church either, or in fact worse than some priests I came across).
It's also supposed to be non-biased, whereas church is expected to have a strong opinion on many things.

I don't see why church isn't those things.
There is a difference between teaching "freedom in Christ" and "Submission".
Without a Christian context, would the Enlightenment have even been possible?

That's another question, a rather speculative one at that (a polemic answer would be that perhaps it wouldn't have been necessary then).

As for differences, for one there is the whole issue of faith, which, agreed, doesn't necessarily mean submission.
And the fact that church is party whereas school doesn't have to be.

You must be a BIG fan of Hitler and the Nazi regime in Germany in the 30's and 40's then. After all they made an absolutely HUGE contribution to medical science.

Anyway, to get back on topic..... People I hate:

1) Almost everyone from school
2) People who place stupid speed limits on roads
3) People who think the car is the enemy
4) Everyone who ever agreed to anything that caused the tax on petrol in this country to be so fucking ludicrously high.
5) People who use the milk that is provided at work for tea and coffee for their breakfast cereal
6) Whoever created oracle and the shit that is PL/SQL
7) Everyone who ever complained about me letting in a goal when playing football at school when they were the ones that forced me into goal in the first place because they refused to go in themselves.
8) People who are full of their own self importance and opinions
9) People who love HDR images and submit them to Digg with the title "The most amazing HDR photo EVAR!!!!!" then it turns out be be a pile of absolute shite that makes me feel physically ill.
10) Tony Blair
11) GWB
12) Probably you.
13) Yes, you, reading this.

HDRI is really neat for 3D rendering, unnerving for photographs. It's like the photographer sneezed light while taking the photo.

I'm in the UK where it's nearer €1.32 (£0.91), about 80% of which is tax.

Thats the EU, taxes everywhere. In the USA its much cheeper, but it raises because the arabian states do no longer want to sell theyr oil to the USA because of the wars.

The EU has almost no effect on this price WRT taxes. Each state may have it's own taxes, but the price we pay here is due to the UK and the UK alone. The US defiantly has it better in this regard - the state does run on mobilisation of it's populous and to tax that heavily would cause major damage, as I think it does here.

Freudian psychologists.

Quote:
In The Uses of Enchantment: The Meaning and Importance of Fairy Tales, Freudian psychoanalyst Bruno Bettelheim contends that the story of Jack and the beanstalk symbolizes an adolescent male's "giving up relying on oral satisfaction. . . and replacing them with phallic satisfaction," declaring that Jack's climbing of the beanstalk "symbolizes not only the 'magic' power of the phallus to rise, but also a boy's feelings connected to masturbation" because it shows how the boy "fears that his desire to become sexually active amounts to stealing parental powers and prerogatives."

People who hate all of your ideas, no matter how rational they are, because you are the one telling them it.

example:
Someone has a laptop with a 16:9 screen. they are running a resolution of 1024x726 you explain to them what aspect ratios are and then show them they can change their resolution to 1397*786 and show them that that is the native resolution of their screen, and why it is better. They don't take your suggestion on the pure basis that you came up with it.
