me me me! over here!!11! look at me!

Well, I'm doing work on my computer tonight, so naturally I started to procrastinate. And while procrastinating, I decided to count up all the downloads that my skins have received over the years. Between winamp.com and 1k1ws, the number turns out to be just over half a million (500,478), so to mark this entirely insignificant milestone, I decided to start a completely pointless and shamelessly self-indulgent thread about it. But with the low number of threads here these days, who's gonna complain?

And of course, one of the highlights for any skinner are the idiotic reviews that she or he accumulates over the years.

This has to be one of my annoying downratings, for Calvin and Hobbes:
Quote:
"Sad" (rating: 1 star)
I love Calvin and Hobbes. Always have. So, after I download and apply this skin, should I run out to the store at breakneck speeds and purchase all the Calvin and Hobbes merchandise I can find? Be silent, consume, die -- and don't forget it. Off to go find an Enron skin...
My only answer to that bloke is "er, no, why should you run out and buy C&H merchandise when you can download this C&H skin for free, since it was made by a fan, for fans, and for no profit, you boob."

This next one (actually, it's kind of a series of them) is hands down the most offensive, and pitiful, one that I've received: by Jammurch for Plastyk at DA (the emoticons really make it, which is why I've linked it instead of cutting & pasting it). It's pretty stupid. I challenge you guys to match that one for pure childishness (though sadly, many skinners probably can )

This is one of my favourite good reviews, for Selective Ambience:
Quote:
Excellent! People are scared of white space. I accidentally fell into this skin and was lost in a white sky. It tasted like paste. I danced with a spinning close cursor. I only came back for lunch. Thank you for being a love and skinning this skin. Wooo.. .
I guess when you make a skin based on an Aphex Twin album, you should expect some oddball reviews, though you've got to wonder when someone seems to be 10 times more enthusiastic about your skin than even you were when you made it

Sow a thought, reap an action; sow an action, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny.

All my skins: @ winamp.com @ 1K1WS @ Deviantart.com

My latest Flash Project: BreathingEarth.net

Most of the ridiculous/terrible reviews I get are on Winamp.com. How strange.

Oh yeah. Here's a pretty funny review on Zeus v2 Anoxia.

Well...my skins arent really popular but this guy is pretty funny (i dunno if english is his main language as mine is just a joke) all the messages i read from him included "How did u do that" hehe...anyway this skin was one of my first ones...and i dunno if it deserves a 10/10

~*Red Demon*~

Well...as I'm from argentina...all my friends (as i do) speak spanish...and not so much english...so this is the result..(on the same skin)it's almost obvious that it's a friend of mine

The best part about the C&H quote is that the creator (I forget his name at the moment) refused to license his work, he only sold his strip (via. syndication and books)

Bill Watterson is the man. I've read every C&H book several times... Too bad he retired... even before I started reading them.

My first C&H book was "There's Treasure Everywhere" that I picked up in an airport when I was little.

Yes they were, idea got ditched in Winamp5 because, and I quote..."skinned menus are gay", you can still see them in some skins where custom designed pop up menus were used, anything that was a wasabi generated menu used the old skinned menu system if the graphics were there, I know there is one on my old Halo3 skin for the vis options, probably some others as well.

I must reply...

As for the skins, I always love looking at a Stillwater skin...I think I have most of your skins on my computer somewhere...Gah-Damn, I need to start skinning again...

As for the review...no, I can't match the childishness in terms of skin reviews...as I've never had a skin published...although way back when, some of you guys gave me a few good reviews in Skin Love.

I can, however, match the childishness in terms of an ex-girlfriend. ¬_¬

Oh, in case most of the names I recognize have forgotten mine...I've been registered here nearly two years, but I haven't visited since last December...life got slow, and I am planning to do another skin...so I will be seeking the Winamp Classic masters. I also have an old account with the name Saotome 2.0...don't know if that helps you guys recognize/remember my name.

For really, really negative comments, one must constult...
ADVENTURE for Atari 2600!
For example:
"Awful! this skin is really DISGUSTING"
Posted by Evanescence on Sunday, April 13th, 2003

And, a couple of months later...

"Awful! URGH, YUK, GROSS!"
Posted by Evanescence on Monday, June 09th, 2003

Seriously, what the heck is that? I really wanted to email her, but somehow I doubted contacting "fakeemailaddress at hotmail dot com" would prove productive.

Also worth noting,
"yawn* along with every other old school atari skin. these games are in the past for a reason you realize right? make a skin of a COOl game or something like unreal tournament 2003 or something."
Posted by (B)-art on Friday, April 25th, 2003

I also found a number of comments on my
"Dedd Linxx" skin along the lines of "That's cool, but I would never use it." Which I found pretty funny.

You know, I was about to say that it was the actual song (off the website) but now that I think about it, I may have typed it into the screenshot as a joke. Heh.
