Hey, if you need any help, I'm here. Haven't been active much but I don't want to see winamp forums go away either. I can help with the SHOUTcast stuff yet too.

I agree that we need to settle on one site. Does anybody know how to get in direct contact with the part of AOL responsible for Winamp? Hopefully they'll let us transfer the database to a new home. Maybe we should start a petition to keep the forums running?

Now like Jay said, we can't have too many people trying to put something together at once. So I will step aside unless needed. With that being said, I'm going to start downloading as many plug-ins and archiving as much of the frontend of the site I can, if for no reason other than to preserve some of the history on here. I suggest others do the same.

This is a sig of some nature.

Just re-registered here, lost my old account..
But, i'm currently 24, and I've using WinAmp since I had a computer(when I had 14), everyone around me uses winamp, there is NOT any other music player as usefull and as well designed than winamp, not on windows, much less on linux, where most players crash when I try to load my 70Gb of music(mp3 and FLAC), and its rare the ones that even something as simple as a freaking shuffle button.
With winamp, I just load everything into the playlist, it shuffle, and I can listen to all my music collection, and can still have all the albuns correctly ordered, instead of some dead-brain implementations of shuffle that shuffles the playlist

And AVS, oh man..
All those epic visualisations, and skins, so many skins...
When I was younger, I spent days, yes days, just listening to music and whatching the visualizations, so mesmerizing.
Seeing this notice really brings a tear to my yeas.

Don't die on me winamp!

just read the shocking news. Sure, it was to be expected but it still came as a shock. The forums even more than the player, actually.

I hope the forums can be copied somehow but I doubt they're going to do it or are even allowed to do it. (not just their privacy but also the privacy of 500000+ users).

What about the plugins, skins etc section? can they be copied to a new server?

there's no 1 specific focus on such things, though everything appears to have been scraped and on archive.org, etc so it's not as much of an issue now. however, the forum was more so that depending on when / what happens here, there's at least one known place to coordinate things from going onwards.

I already read it, I just don't seem to be able to register. I tried it on this computer and my laptop, using both Opera and FireFox. After filling in the form, it says I didn't fill in an email address even though I did.

I have used winamp since it first hit the internet in 1997, and I had no idea until now that it even hosted a forum, since I've never needed any help with the 'perfect program.' Because I had to do a clean install on my laptop, I thought I'd update my winamp, too, only to discover it is closing down.
This has got to be the best music player out there: clean code, no bloatware, occupies little space and, well, it kicks the llama's arse... ;-D
Since I'd like to stay up on whatever happens with winamp, I registered here so I could go with the crowd to wherever winamp ends up.
Even if the creators no longer care to support it, there will always be a need for a superior music player!!! I hope someone reading this will breathe more life into winamp and not let such a beautiful little program gasp its last breath ;-(

I've been running it for 5, maybe 6 years now *(brb, let me check)... shit, since May of 2005. Time flies when you're having fun.

It's stable, upgrades are timely, there is the ability to import from other from databases IF AOL/Winamp will hand over this one.....

The installer is built into Fantastico, which is included in most site control panels I have seen.

Now look at what you've done, AOL!
OAQM posted outside of the bin and now has 667 posts, instead of his beloved target of 666.
Also SMF has always looked ugly and meh to me.

I figure this late in the game, post counts don't matter a whole lot.

SMF (like almost every other app on the web) have skins (which they call Themes) which totally change what the end user sees. Some of the themes are downright badass.

"All Good Things (Come To An End)"... I don't want that (You know that)...

My life is already bad enough, especially, since the better times have gone, it had happened to Frank and me already a while ago, and we have already given up our hope, that we will have better times again some day. Sometimes I could cry...

I have so many fears, that's the reason, why I have to hide in the cave soon...

For Winamp: I want to see the "Resurrection" somewhere else, because Winamp is the legend, and the story of Winamp should be "The Neverending Story". I wish that so much...

And this may be the biggest surprise from Winamp's demise: Not only is it still alive and kicking — and reportedly making about $6 million a year for AOL — but there will be plenty of mourners at its funeral. "Winamp still has an estimated user base of millions worldwide, a small fraction of which live in the United States," says Ars Technica's Cyrus Farivar.

Well now I gotta say...this is awful stoopid.

When I think about it though, I could see income dropping when the users are non-US, because the ad support targets US people. There could be other reasons that I'm unaware of instead; I don't know. Still enough to get many angry.

Me, too...

In the last 4 weeks I was in too much stress, I have slept too less and unregularly. My health is struck, I don't feel very well and I'm scared to get a weakness arising, although that would be very inconvenient now. When the next weekend comes, then I have to come to rest...
