Windows ME - Windows XP Icons > Question..

Ok, I know WinXP let's you have all those smooth, nicely colored icons, and etc. And that WinME default colors are only 256. Is there a way to change this, like with a hack, mod, something like that. I have WinME and I just can't stand the way these ugly icons look, I need to have them nice and smooth like XP, and don't say go buy XP, there is reasons I can't!

If you like a bit more color and detail in your icons, then this setting allows you to enable hi-color mode. Show your Windows icons in all their high resolution glory.

Open the registry, [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics]

Create a new string value named "Shell Icon BPP" Change the value to equal the color depth supported by your video card (e.g. '16' for 16-bit graphics cards or '24' for 24-bit graphics cards)

Settings:
User Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics]
Name: Shell Icon BPP
Type: REG_SZ (String Value)
Value: 16

Not at all, but if your uncomfortable messing with the registry, then you should try this neat program. you can change all of your icons or just the ones you want into anything you like! and also increase the color.

If you don't know what is an H-key or yet alone manage your registry then I would'nt recomend Modifying the registry. You can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Use the information provided at your own risk.

Before you mess with the registry make sure you make a back up!

I have a 233mhz, don't know if WinMX would run good, I heard it'll fine but you never know, I have a laptop And I am too poor to pay that much for an OS Jk, but that just doesn't seem like something I would get, I would se... ANYWAYS, what if my friend burned me a copy, would I run into any problems, and I know some of you don't like the pirated deal, so let's just say, umm... well forget this post! I don't support pirating, but I bought an OS, so I think I deserve a free upgrade!
