I really like the computer paper touch in the ML. You could use that computer paper on the EQ and make some really cool EQ bars with it - and it would help break up the monotony of the skin too

Will the grey edges be transparent? If so, great. If not, then you should try to make the PL, VID and ML windows a bit curved (like the MAIN and EQ, but obviously less so, as you have less space to play with) as well.

my entry

Mine's basically finished. If I have time, I'll add some cursors, mikro and MB for that 10-point completeness score.

Some of you may remember this skin from about a year ago, which is when I started it. Back then, I spent aaaages touching up all of the various tiled backgrounds so that they would be seamless no matter how the windows were stretched. But then the smooth window resizing option came in and totally ruined that (well, I'm not complaining, since I like that option, but it sure does make some of the tiles on this skin look shonky when stretched certain distances)

Please bugtest and/or comment!

The deadline has now passed and I have received all the entries. Kudos to all who entered - thanks for all your hard work, guys!

Unfortunately, the deadline extension has come at a bit of a price. I won't be home for the next couple of days (or longer). The earliest I can post all the skins for judging will be Wednesday, but if things don't work out, you may have to wait until the weekend. I'm really sorry about that, but it's out of my control. I'll try my best to get them up as quickly as possible and I thank you in advance for your patience.

Stay tuned (please . . . )!

You can just promise that you'll finish it soon, k_rock. I submitted a pretty crappy version because of time constraints, but I'm going to refine it.

Dark Ninja, you're so good to me.

So . . . I've just thrown together a place to view and download all the entries. 6 in total! If there are any problems with the page, please let me know; I'll be back in about 24 hours to fix them. Oh yes - to my own surprise, I submitted a skin. If you feel weird about the contest organizer entering, let me know and I'll withdraw, but let me assure you everything is on the up and up.

Um . . . is that it? It's so late and I still have (other) work to do. My brain sounds like bathtub.

Oh yeah . . . VIEW THE ENTRIES HERE!

And last but not least . . . thanks (again) to everyone who participated, whether in attempt or critique or official submission.

Cool!

I'll try out the entries tomorrow and cast my votes

And I don't see anything wrong with you entering the contest. If there was a $10,000 1st prize, then I'd probably have an issue with you joining and being the one to collate the results , but with a contest that's mainly for fun, I don't see the prolem with it

I just realized I made a small, but vital error in my judging instructions. I said the winner of the contest will be the one with the highest combined score, but what I meant to say was "the winner will be the one with the highest COMBINED AVERAGE score", that is, all scores for each skin will be added, then divided by the number of votes cast for it. This is in recognition that not all skin participants may want to vote (though I really think you should!).

I've corrected the wording on the webpage. This shouldn't affect the scores already sent, but if you have concerns, let me know.

For those of you who haven't scored/voted yet . . . WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR, HUH?!

Well, anyone who has been following this contest in any way, or even just casually visiting the forum over the last few weeks, will recognise most of the skins and probably remember who most of their authors are anyway.

Alright. Thanks for you patience everyone.

And the winner of Nostalgia Skin Contest is... StillWater!

Complete results:
1. Commander Keen 4 by StillWater
2. TandyAmp by Luigi Hann
3. Jumpman by not in santiago
4. SummerKamp by dark ninja
5. Masters of the Universe by tydogg
6. Wayback by R.D. Jones

Some notes:
- In all sincerity, I couldn't see a clear winner. Despite a somewhat computery theme, I think all these skins were original in their own unique and creative way.
- Those who voted agreed. Five out of the six skins received a first place vote at one time or another. 2 points separated the top 3 and 6 points separated the top 5.
- To reiterate (ad nauseum), I started this contest not for fancy prizes, but just to provide some inspiration/incentive for Classic skinners who haven't skinned in awhile; moreso to rekindle some Skin Love comraderie (which I wanted to see after the debacle that was the GUI contest ). It's true Skin Love isn't burning as hot as it used to be, but there are still a few people out there nursing the embers.

Now before I get waaaaaaay too sentimental... Further detail on contest results here

Some notes about said further details:
- I dug out my old bowling trophies (alright, trophY) for inspiration. 'Cause what's more retro than a bowling trophy? And yes, they suck. They suck because I'm so not an artist. I'm not even an artiste.
- I'll be leaving the page up for a couple of weeks, then it's getting nuked. Just FYI.

Thanks for reading this novel and

THANK YOU AND CONGRATS TO EVERYONE!

It's a shame the He-man skin wasn't fleshed out with some usability. Thematically, it was one of the best ideas, and it looks good. I hope to see the eventual update

I hope no one minds, but I took a bit of time to write specific reviews of each skin with my ratings. Here goes:

SommerKamp:
Creativity: 13/25
Usability: 14/15
Completeness: 9/10
Total: 36/50
This skin seems fairly run-of-the-mill, though it definitely is very easy to use.

TandyAmp:
Creativity: 18/25
Usability: 12/15
Completeness: 10/10
Total: 40/50
Very awesomes, though the cursor is a bit clumsy. Also, being based on homestarrunner.com, despite its Tandy origins, it just doesn't conjure images of nostalgia for me.

Jumpman:
Creativity: 22/25
Usability: 11/15
Completeness: 10/10
Total: 43/50
I love this one! Jumpman, such a classic character in video games. Again the cursor is a bit on the clumsy side.

Wayback:
Creativity: 13/25
Usability: 10/15
Completeness: 10/10
Total: 33/50
A great idea and a great start with the background, this skin suffers from clutter and some skinner.exe-esque elements.

Commander Keen 4:
Creativity: 23/25
Usability: 12/15
Completeness: 8/10
Total: 43/50
Another excellent video game skin! This could certainly use some cool cursors, though.

Masters of the Universe:
Creativity: 25/25
Usability: 8/15
Completeness: 9/10
Total: 42/50
This skin gets full marks in creativity. I shudder to think of all the work that must have gone into planning and assembling the images in this skin. However, its major problem is the nigh-impossiblity of finding the buttons in the skin.

And finally, congratulations to all the participants!

Thanks flatmatt and LuigiHann, I think I tend to agree with all of those comments. I'll be the first to admit that probably only I can use my skin, but I'm working on it right now. The cbuttons are still a nightmare. Suggestions?

I saw you made a double-sized version of the MOTU skin. Maybe work in that size to create some cartoony and fitting but still recognisable cbutton icons, work them in, and then shrink it back down. If they're a little obstructive you could have them fade or disappear when clicked to reval the glowing characters behind them.

Thanks to everyone who voted for me Though it seems that I won probably out of luck more than anything else - the results were incredibly close, and i think that that's a very fair reflection of the skins.

Thanks to not in santiago for giving this weary old dog we call "skin-love" a good wake-up kick!

Hey guys. Check out the reviews I got for my Tandy Amp skin Looks like people don't read the skin description AT ALL. I wasn't aware that "Tandy amps" actually existed, so I feel I can hardly be faulted for not making my skin resemble them I wish people would go and look at homestarrunner.com when I link to it, instead of saying they don't understand my skin...

don't think its very funktional, appealing or even creative.. just looks wiered..
