ot: is there any way around this

I posted one of the skins i finished. and within a few hours the emails started poring in, all with a nifty lil atachment. I haven't contracted anything, but can't take the chance of it. I read this (http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....ighlight=virus) thread posted here a while ago and no one suggested any way there may be around this. I have since removed my skins and am leary on posting any more.

thanks

I don't think there is. I get a steady flow of viruses all day long, probably about 50 a day. Just make sure you have some type of antivirus software running and keep it up to date.

The wacky thing about the popular Klez virus going about now is that it is not actually coming from the person in the FROM field, so it won't do any good trying to track it down.

I sort of figured that they wasn't coming from where they say they are cause most of them are from people form here. one thing that is nice is that with the hotmail account that i use here they scan for viruses before it is sent through, and if caught it wont give you the option of down loading it. and i have nortons running. I also started another account so this one is all by itself.

i noticed this as well....but isntead of pulling down your skins (and reducing the number out there), you can just change your email adress in the skin control areas profile to something non-existant. just my two cents

Me too :(

I also have this extremely annoying problem...

Has anyone removed their email address from the listing and had that reduce the amount of spam? I would think that once you're on the spammer's and virii's lists, you're more or less stuck with the traffic for awhile.

It's especially frustrating, because I use Hotmail and within a few hours, I'm over my space allotment. This is a pretty nasty problem. The only from names I've recognized are Adil and Naamloos, and I know neither of them would have any reason to send me this crap.

Grr

The to & from fields on the emails seem to be culled from the winamp pages... what would be a really awesome (Nulsoft: hint hint) feature would be to automatically spam-mask the email addresses, or give the option of it :-)

I know your innocent Naamloos. you were one of the most helpful people when I first started. those are just too names that have appeared. I'm now having to look at another email host. There are just too many viruses being sent.

hmm, I hate those e-mails..
Who do they think they can fool?
I mean, what person ACTUALLY fall for this?

Also, what LOSER think this is funny?
I mean, they have no idea whether the user get's infected or not so why even bother sending the virus?
And if the person who's sending the virus is a person who has downloaded and actually used our skins, why the hell do something incredibly dumb and brainless like that?

I can't believe how stupid people are nowadays...

anyway, there's no need for a anti-virus program for several reasons:
1. just delete the damn e-mail thus avoiding getting infected
2. DO NOT OPEN THE DAMN ATTACHMENT FILE!!!
3. IF, for some strange reason, you'd STILL be infected, there are several online anti-virus pages which will not only scan for all new viruses, but it'll fix any of those viruses aswell..
so, all in all, those online scanners works just aswell as the installed software..
