My ultra sexy new 'classic metallic silver' Creative Nomad Jukebox came today...yipee!! I've got everything plugged in, and 'batteried'....but...where does this one cord go? It says "connect your NOMAD Jukebox to the USB port".
What's a USB port? Do I have one? Where is it?

I'm not sure but I think that most computers today should have at least one or two USB-ports. I think that goes for notebooks too.
The port is about an inch wide and half an inch high. And has a rather slim rektangular look.

It's not a great description but I hope it helps!

Jayn,

Hope your runing a fairly newish pc (last 4 years or so) Full USB conectivity, only came around at the end the latter end of Winbloze 95 time, prior to that a lot of desktops didn't have USB ports, mainly cos Winbloze didnt support it.

Basically if your running anything after WIN95, ie, 98, 98se, ME or god forbid 2000 you should be ok,but if your running an old 95 machine that was upgraded to a new O/S you might not have any. Have a hunt around the back they will be there somewhere

A USB-port would come in handy...your Nomad wouldn't be very usefull without USB..**keeps fingers crossed

Just another thought, your USB ports may already be occupied by another device, USB seems to be the de facto way of connecting stuff these day, shouldn't be a problem swapping devices around in them, it will only be a pain in the ass if the back of your pc isn't easily accesable.

In which case you may consider buying a small usb hub to plug into the back of your pc, these allow you to plug multiple devices in at the same time. My Compaq at home has one USB port, into which I have a USB hub plugged in, From that I have my printer, digi cam, Rio MP3 player and USB mouse plugged in, with another 2 spare ports available for other devices, scanner, web cam that kind of thing.

Check all the connections of all your devices that you have plugged in, see if they match the supplied lead that came with your nomad.

Yeah and I've had 3 in the last 6 months, all I got left from the original is the batteries.

Lets seeeeee, screen fade, total hard drive failure, keys falling off keyboard, lots of random hardware glitches oh and I dropped one off the top of an 8 foot data cabinet at work, so they don't bounce either

back to topic... usually a scanner or digital camera uses the USB port... the USB post is usually next to the mouse port... the cable should have an icon with a wire on it ... look for the port with the same icon

I found it....I have 2 of 'em (USB plug in thingies) on the back of my computer. I had to wake all the little dustbunnies up...but I got it all hooked up. Yehaw! It even sounds cool on these little backphones that came with it....I can't wait to see what it sounds like hooked up to my stereo! *contented sigh*.....life is good

Thinks better to say anything else.

For the record...

And because I didn't see it mentioned (sorry if I missed someone else's expanation, just got back in town so I'm skimming) USB stands for Universal Serial Bus, and allows you to hook up a plethora of devices (up to 256) to one port. If you multiply the ports out with USB hubs (as our new <shudder> Mod explained) you can daisy-chain plenty o' toys.
