Thank you!

Guys, I understand finance and projects and such, so
though sad, it was probably unavoidable for Winamp to
cease at one point.

However, I would like to thank the devs for this awesome product
I purchased and have been using for 13 years.

You can be happy about having made the best MP3 player
EVER and for many years to come...

Goodspeed Winamp! Best there ever was
and best there ever will be!

Good started thread. When shock is over, the first thing should be a big THANKS!
Thanks to DrO, to DJ Egg, to Benski, Pawel, CraigF and everybody who stayed last years, fighting, like Don Quixote, fighting against the wind mills!

=)

I thought this day would never come!
Such a sad day

I didn't see any note on the home page but found out through Engadget which found out from Ars Technica:
http://www.engadget.com/2013/11/20/w...shutting-down/
http://arstechnica.com/business/2013...namp-for-good/

Can't imagine using another player to play the mp3s.

So long, the best media player ever.
You will always have your space on my hard drive.

Thanx

Also I myself never want to use another media player, only Winamp, and I always will reinstall Winamp, if necessary.

Currently I use Windows Vista & Windows 7. I didn't buy a computer with Windows 8 yet. I still have all the installer-setups incl. backup-copies, and I hope, that I don't have to use Windows 9 some day...

This is a sad day, even sadder when AOL pulls the plug next month. I've been on the forums here for almost 8 years, and used Winamp even before that, back to 2000 at least.

I'll definitely continue to use Winamp for as long as it still works; and a massive thank you to DrO for his indispensable plugins and his hopeful stance on continuing to develop them now that things are bleak for the program proper. And for making 5.66 one hell of a swan song. Fantastic work.

AOL should open source, at which point crowdfunding could go a long way...

Request: A little SmartView Query Language love.

Thank you, Winamp.

I've been using Winamp for almost its entire 15-year life. Fifteen years. That is an eternity in computing. 1998 was pre-Y2K and dot-com bubble. The internet had been mainstream for barely five years.

I was sad to learn about the impending closure of Winamp. It made me nostalgic for my university days when Netscape Navigator 3 was my browser and I listened to streaming music on Spinner. ICQ was in alpha. I played Descent. Winamp is a connection back to my youth, and its demise, though not unforeseen, ages me.

It's the end of an era. To everyone who was part of it, from Justin Frankel and Tom Pepper to Nullsofties/Winampers past and present, I send out my sincere thanks.

It's been wonderful. I remember my buddy from school skinning way back when we first were learning HTML and hacking our 56k free-evening-dialer-bar...

Up until earlier this year, Adventure Bar in Covent Garden was also using Winamp in touchscreen format on a wall to run their music playlists for the night.

I used to sleep to the visualisations including MilkDrop. Life has been great with Winamp and nothing will replace it on my PC...
