Soilwork - Stabbing the Drama (2005)

God so much good music came out last year. I'd say metal is making a good resurgence.

The question is, will you still listen to it when you're 60?

Who knows. My parents still listen to their black sabbath album occasionally, and I'm sure people were saying the same thing about them :P

Foo Fighters, their first album. Not only a really good album, a pretty amazing feat as well, seeing as Grohl played pretty much every note on the thing.

Aha, so your folks were the architects of your metal collection.

I like to think I'll still be listening to My Bloody Valentine at 105.

When I'm 105 I'll probably be hearing My Bloody Valentine (if not Metal Machine Music) ringing in my ears all the time.

Actually, my Mom (the old Black Sabbath fan ) listens to 99% Country now and my dad listens to Dire Straightsy stuff. I'm glad they get back to their rebellious roots sometimes.

And as for my Album?

Ought to be illegal, one-album-wonders.

Finally cracked the Bloc Party code. It was almost as slippery as Stereolab, but worth it.

Bloc Party - 2005 - Silent Alarm

Arctic Monkeys - 2006 - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not

I usually avoid hyped albums and revisit them when the fad's passed (and the keyboard player's inside for bank robbery). This is infectious stuff though.

Coldplay???
U2???????????????????????????!

AMG:
"Equally inspired by Sonic Youth, Joy Division, Gang of Four and the Cure, South London art-punkers Bloc Party mix angular sonics with pop structures."

'Angular' is definitely the right word.

I have special NME loo roll (double fibre), they've coined the phrase 'Art Wave' to take in everything from Franz Ferdinand to Babyshambles. It's like post-punk's 2nd coming...

True, they're like stadium-rock Joy Division (peddling it all the way). As such then, the post-punk sound but not necessarily the post-punk attitude.

Ah well, I'll take the musik (and run).

KMFDM - Hau Ruck

My industrial fix, a bit naive sounding at times, but some tracks are pure genius.

Rammstein - Rosenrot

Hmm, yes.

Honorable mention goes to Matisyahu - Shake of the dust... ARISE (Orthodox Jew reggae guy... and he rocks).

I've listened to the Arctic Monkeys album, and yeah, it's addictive, but still nothing special. I'm playing it a lot, but that's only because I don't have Kaiser Chiefs - Employment here. Or Silent Alarm. I love Helicopter, Banquet and Banquet's remix, and I respect the other tracks more than I really like them. Those hypemonger halfretarded reviewers who gave Arctic Monkeys and Maximo Park 4's and 4.5's, and 3's and 3.5's to Employment should go and commit collective suicide. Just my 2 cents. And I don't know a single person (in real life) that doesn't like KC way more than these.

Cylob, did you hear Silent Alarm Remixed ?

Not yet, all I have (as far as remixes goes) is Banquet/Phones Disco Edit. And to be honest, it sounds just like the original.

The Kaisers are my personal heroes of "Art Wave", with The Rakes coming in 2nd. The other bands aren't half bad, so I'm not complaining.

At long last, there seems to be a depth to this current wave.

Art?

I was just thinking how much Employment reminds me of The Cars and similar New-Wave-influenced-US-Mainstream bands.

OK, so the singer sounds like Andy Partridge or Paul Weller, they aren't exactly famous for their vocal talent though but for their, what was it again? ah yes, songwriting.

How about Simon Le Bon fronting Clinic?

You have to admit, they're original, like 'em or not. At the minute they're easilly the best band in the UK...

Maybe we can agree on "the next Oasis", I was never able to listen to an album's worth of Gallagher bros either.

Maybe I'd like the Kaisers better if I'd do more shuffle mode listening.

Between 1978 and '82 I'd guess.

(still lots more enjoyable than the latest British New Wave of the New Wave of the New Wave of the...)
