Sound Volume When Playing PC through Home Stereo

The sound volume when I play my songs using Winamp through my home stereo is much lower than any other audio device I have hooked into the stereo. Even if I play an MP3 player through the stereo it's louder. I have the volumes turned up quite a bit on both Winamp and in Windows.

Does anyone know what might help boost this sound. Is there a pre-amp out there I could hook in?

Winamp -> Prefs -> Plugins -> Output
Switch to WaveOut
Play a song
Turn the volume up to 100% in Winamp's main volume control
Stop playback
Switch back to DirectSound Output

Winamp -> Prefs -> Playback
If ReplayGain is enabled, decrease the preamp slider for files without RG to nearer 0dB (default is -6dB)

Winamp EQ window
Increase the preamp slider slightly (it's the vertical one on the left).
Don't go too high or you'll get distortion.
Increase the EQ levels a bit, mainly bass (left sliders) and treble (right sliders).

And that's about it really.

Other than that.... winamp.com/plugins -> DSP/Effects

Although I don't personally use any DSP/Effects plugins, Enhancer is pretty good...

Thanks for the suggestions, I almost have it equal to the CD player, but I guess for sound quality and output the audio component still rules. Would a new soundcard help any? If so, any suggestions on make/model?

Quite a bit? Why not all the way up? I keep my Winamp volume and my Windows master volume all the way up. Sounds great. Is there a problem with doing this that I'm missing...? I'd think it'd only be good to feed the stereo reciever as strong a signal as you can, as long as it doesn't distort the sound.
