alternating row colors

Is there any way to get alternating row colors and/or column separation lines in the media library in the bento skin??

I did stumble across the option to "use alternating colors in list view when available" (preferences > media library > appearance)
I checked it, but to no avail. when is this option available?

i found a post that said........
"To alternate row colors just add this line to your skin´s system-colors.xml file.

<color id="wasabi.list.background.alternate" value="48,49,50" gammagroup="PlayerDisplay"/>"

i cant find a system-colors.xml and i dont no what xml i need to insert this line?

Any help would be appreciated.

In your other thread you were asking this about the Bento skin. The Bento skin already has that line. However, you could try altering it to use the value numbers suggested in the post you found. You should be able to find the system-colors.xml file in...

Program Files\Winamp\Skins\Big Bento\xml\

Before editing the file make a backup of it, as a "just in case". You can edit the file with a text editor like Notepad

Change
<color id="wasabi.list.background.alternate" value="13,14,15" gammagroup="PlayerDisplay"/>

to

<color id="wasabi.list.background.alternate" value="48,49,50" gammagroup="PlayerDisplay"/>

Please do not PM me for tech support. Any request for tech support through PM will be ignored.

i figured it out... it was the color theme i was using that had this line....

<gammagroup id="PlayerDisplay" value="-4096,-4096,-4096" gray="0" boost="0" />

so i went and changed those values w/ the ones you gave me and presto!

thanks for your help!

I am using the Big Bento skin. I like alternating background color in the media library, but when I select the Classic color theme the alternating colors are gone. Modifying system-colors.xml as directed by JonnyMac above unfortunately didn't do the trick. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hmm... I managed to change it just by modifying that line, make sure you are in Big Bento folder.

Other than that, you should try this values:

<color id="wasabi.list.background.alternate" value="33,34,35" gammagroup="PlayerDisplay"/>

or (for more contrast):

<color id="wasabi.list.background.alternate" value="43,44,45" gammagroup="PlayerDisplay"/>

Hi, thanks for your reply Victhor. I have just modified the correct .xml file as per your recommendation on a fresh Winamp v5.63 install on 32-bit W7, using default installation settings.. With the Big Bento skin selected and then the Winamp Classic color theme, alternating colors simply does not work. I have re-started Winamp after modifiying the xml file.

Is there anything I am missing out?

Maybe it is something quite easy; when you unzip the skin and change the xml, what do you do with the zip / wal file? Because having the folder AND the zip / .wal file will result in having 2 skins with the same name in the list (while the old one is selected).

You should RENAME the "folder skin" (something like "Big Bento 2") and select it once the files are modified.

Thanks for reply Victhor. I tried that but it didn't make any difference.

The purpose of modifying system-colors.xml as advised previously is to tweak the color of colored rows in the Media Library. The setting is global and affects all color themes, not just the Winamp Classic color theme, which leads me to think that we are looking at the wrong .xml file altogether.

I think I've nailed it! The file color-presets.xml, which stores the color theme parameters, seems to be the culprit. In said file, I replaced the Winamp Classic theme code with the Default Theme code (which we know displays alternating row colors). Reverting one line at a time and re-starting Winamp after each change I was able to determine which line is responsible for the alternating row colors feature.

The following line under the "Winamp Classic" section of color-presets.xml:

<gammagroup id="PlayerDisplay" value="-4096,-4096,-4096" gray="0" boost="0" />

needs to be changed to:

<gammagroup id="PlayerDisplay" value="0,0,0" gray="0" boost="0" />

This will enable alternating row colors. I am not sure what exactly those parameters do but it'd be cool to know!

Note that to get alternating row colors you don't need to modify system-colors.xml at all, contrary to what was said earlier.

Since some of you seem to have gotten this to work without tweaking color-presets.xml, I wonder if my copy of this file is different from yours and more importantly why the heck if you haven't done any manual edits to it? I am merely using the default skin files created by the Winamp v5.63 installer. Perhaps you are using the skin files from an older version of Winamp?

Here are my XML files in case anybody can compare them with theirs (right-click > save as...):

color-presets.xml (original unmodified)
color-presets.xml (alternating row colors)
